I was trying to read the patent and understand it. Could someone elaborate for me?

If I understood it properly, the major part of the patent is a threaded attachment that does two things:
1. Gives you a stronger threaded attachment. There is a specially designed muzzle break integral to the can, that could be used on its own, but has threads at the back of the break that the can threads to. It looks like the break extends back on the barrel fitting tightly to the barrel just upstream of the barrel threads so the unthreaded part of the barrel can help stabilize the can.
2. Eliminates the possibility of gases and unburnt powder from getting into the attachment threads. So it won't foul up and seize on the barrel. Looks like you could shoot it for thousands of rounds and still unscrew it without any problems.
While QD cans on breaks (like the Surefire design) are cool, threaded cans can go anywhere you have threads, no special muzzle device required.
This is an extremely cool patent!
Any patent lawyers out there (or Mark) want to elaborate, or correct me?
