You should build M4 uppers without forward assist. Like the Les Baer upper but with M4 cuts. Every time I take a poll here there are 40+ replies from people who want that––-if I can find that on a Tuesday night on the boards you oughta have 500 or more customers I should think.
IIRC, it's 2 ounces and 7 parts less than a standard upper. |
Should be easy enough to do. I'll find out how probable this will be and get back at you guys.
Five years asking someone to make them, a dozen calls to manufacturers offering to buy 500 at once to get it done, and I post from my phone while I eat French fries and it happens in minutes. Thank you John.
I see your edit lol. I would start with Les Baer, they would probably do a run with M4 cuts.
I hate MFGs that over promise and under deliver. We've tried to under promise and over deliver. I'm looking into it seriously and I'll work hard to getting it done.
So you want the upper with shell deflector, just no forward assist right? You are going to help market these for me once I get them made right so I'm not sitting on 500 uppers sitting in my shop right? |
I agree. Yes deflector but no FA. I will post it everywhere I talk guns online and tell everyone I know and buy one for each of my rifles. I like to think people here listen to me, Ive either been one of the first to jump on the SBR, silencer or no forward assist bandwagons or part of the cause of it via my postings here and elsewhere––I hope the latter. If there is anything I can do to help you market this product just let me know.

Spoke to our machine shop and they are requiring a brand new forging as the standard forging will require too much machine work. I'll keep you informed as the progress develops.
Make it NiB coated and ill take 2.
Still waiting for that NiB Zombie lower too |
I'd def take 1, maybe up to 3, depending upon price. 2oz isn't worth too much of a premium to me, but I'm a rather frugal guy
ive thought about this also "shaving some weight off'' Ill take two.
I would at least buy one. Maybe more depending on price. Buying drilled 9mm uppers then adding full size ejection port covers gets expensive.

put me down for one or two depending on price.
I have F/A plugs, but the part of the upper the f/a goes in is still gettin on my nerves. I am this effin close to grinding the damn thing off the upper Lefty here who hates scraping his knuckles on the damn thing when workig the CH w/ my R hand. Also, doesn't believe in using it at all. Lemme know b/c I am about to do a build. |
I will buy atleast five of them, I get back from Afghanistan next month.....
You could market them for lefties with an ambi charging handle. No FA would make it a whole lot easier to use. I would even consider replacing my BCM upper
I've always wanted one in this configuration for a LW build. Put me down for one.
I would take one to start. Any future builds would get one too.
I would also be interested; I've ridden to bolt home several times before, and STILL never had to use the F/A.

If you make them with a charging handle notch also on the right side and then design (or get BCM/Vltor to design) a true left handed charging handle then you'd really have something unique for us lefties! I'd definitely buy a few of those!
I would buy one and I have a friend that I just introduced to you guys who would as well
Put me down for one every 2 months for the next year.
So six to start mmmkaay |
Rainier:
what kind of price point are we talking about then??? |
We are definitely moving forward with these. 400 forgings were ordered to start but believe it or not, the forgings are more expensive then standard forgings. There will be the initial program charge but less machining so I'm hoping the price will be similar to our standard forged uppers. I'll keep you guys informed as the project develops.

thanks john, Im looking foward to getting my paws on acouple of them might even get one for my .458 SOCOM.

What time frame are we talking about? I need to put an order in w/ you this weekend.

What time frame are we talking about? I need to put an order in w/ you this weekend. It's a long process. We just ordered the forgings so there is wait time for that, then wait time for programming, then wait time for cutting, anodizing, etc. It will be at least a 2-3 month project if everything goes well but it's too early to even guess that. At least you know, we've committed to it and it will happen. It's just a matter of time now. |
If I may throw my .02 in the ring;
Is there a possibility of a mil-spec bolt carrier to accompany this upper without the FA notches? This upper/BC combo is something I searched long and hard for with no luck over quite a few recent upper builds. I saw the Les Baer option, and Youngs BC, but I don't trust the LB AR parts, I have not been impressed slightly with any of them, and I did not want anything other than a mil-spec, new carrier, without notches. Thanks for listening to your customers Ranier, this is one of the only industries where that still happens. |
As I stated in the other forum, I will take 1 for sure. Possibly 2 o3 total.
Thanks John! |
I've always wanted an M4 style upper w/no FA. If it comes to fruition, I'll definitely take 2.
Funny I was talking about this a few weeks back about looking into buying one. Would love it if you guys did.

Is this the upper you all are talking about? http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=1871
Or is it a standard slick side (with the port cover) and with M4 cuts? I'm asking Because I'm looking for one too. I watched the milspecmonkey tour of Rainer Arms on youtube last night. It was pretty neat but where do you keep the engineers, in the closet? LOL. |

Imagine a USGI upper with no forward assist. That's it. Wow, finally something we agree upon. Anyway, bump for updates. |
