I'm looking to get my first cross bow.
I'm not looking to spend alot of money. The cheaper the better.
I saw some at Dicks (can't remember what it was) and I almost walked out with it, but I found it on Amazon cheaper, then realized it's really not powerful enough to take a large buck at any decent distance.

So that being said. What's a decent entry level xbow, that's not gonna cost an arm and a leg, that'll put down a decent sized buck at realistic distances?

Thanks!

I have a Barnett Terrain and a Wicked Ridge Invader; like them both about equally. Try some and see what you prefer

Looking at a Centerpoint Sniper 370 myself.  Adjustable stock is a plus, as I have a 10 and 8 year old that will be shooting it some.

You can get an Excalibur Axiom package with scope, bolts and quiver for around $400 If you shop around. My son and father-in-law have had great luck with them.  Simple, fabulously accurate easy to maintain.  Recurve are not as compact as compounds but they are pounds lighter.

Picked up a Wicked Ridge invader x4 with the crank cocking device after shooting some.  My kids will be able to cock this easily.  More than I originally wanted to spend, but it will get used more.  Maybe not an issue for you.

I bought a Bear Fortus last year at Cabelas on clearance for $250.  Bear has renamed it the "Vanish" this year, and it is my first crossbow.  I took a doe at 40 yards with it three weeks ago, and it was my first deer.  I am happy with it, it is plenty accurate for me.

Got a Centerpoint Sniper Elite for $225.  I love it so far and my boys are 9 and 10 and they can shoot it too.

By the way, the “buffer tube” does fit Magpul milspec stocks.

Just bought a CenterPoint specialist, had the trigger upgrade done to it. For the money, I don't see how you can beat it.

Walmart had a bunch of name brand crossbows, compound bows and accessories on clearance recently. Bought a Bear Pledge 70lb compound bow for $49 down from $400 and all the arrows, accessories one would need for a hunt or backyard fun on the cheap to start me out with.

I'm looking to take the plunge also.  Someone recommended Ten Point Crossbows.  I've seen a few in the 500-700 dollar range that have caught my eye.  Thoughts?

OP, don't know if you purchased a crossbow yet. These are on sale and definitely worth looking at.

Whatever you do do not buy a PSE Fang I have had two of them break limbs. But I will say PSE customer service has been great to me

Check local Academy Sports. Just bought my first crossbow two weeks ago. They had a Carbon Express kit on clearance for $150. Comes with bow, scope, cranking winch, arrow quiver and three bolts.  It is a little screamer and proving to be very accurate.  I will say the scope that came with mine is crap...it would not adjust right out of the box, but I put another optic on it and it a very accurate bow. Like 1.5" groups at 30 yards.  Seriously thinking of bowhunting with this rig.

Tenpoint has an excellent reputation.  They also own Wicked Ridge and Horton.  They're great as well with a little lower price range than the Tenpoint models.

I picked up a centerpoint sniper 370 from amazon this year.

I think it was under $250 for the bow, three bolts, and a scope + quiver.

I harvested a buck at 25 yards and a doe at 56 yards (used my laser range finder to verify).

It’s the best $250 I’ve spent this year.
