All-

I've never hunted Coyotes (not much of that done in Northern MN where I grew up).  I have been invited to go to CO this summer with my father and brother to help a rancher clear up his Coyote problem.  In return, we get a week of fly fishing in a pretty low-pressure area.

I'm using this trip to drive me to finish my first AR.  I've got the lower about complete (just waiting on a trigger) and will be going with a Denny's Recon upper and a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9 scope.  I understand that a 22-250 bolt gun may be a better choice for these animals, but I'd like to do this with an AR.

My question is on bullet selection.  Since I'll have a 1 in 7 barrel, I should be able to go to a heavier bullet if it helps.  I'm not concerned with pelt integrity, I just want to humanely put down the animal quickly.  I'm a reloader, so I'm willing to tinker to get it right.

Any suggestions on bullet makes and models to look into?  Thanks in advance.

I use my 1/7 20" Bushy to hunt coyotes, and the bullet I use is a 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip.  It shoots just fine to 300 yards, the furthest I have shot it.

Try 'em, they might shoot just fine in your rifle.

I use Black Hills Blue Box 55gr soft points out of my 20" 1-8 bull barrel.  Shoots under .75 moa and drops em dead.

I use the 55gr ballistic tips, and V-Max the most,50gr barnes&Speer varminters, Winchester 45gr JHP, etc but just about any expanding point bullet will do fine, light weight or heavy weight, just find something your gun shoots well.

Yup, I use the 55grn Vmax in a AR. Got a buddy that uses the 60grn VMax. Both work well and do what they should.
