I didn't realize it would hurt livestock!

Is it because they eat so much of it?

Yeah it’s 2-4D resistant. We have Chocolate mint or perilla mint here that grows wild and cattle will poison themselves on it in the fall. Killing mint here is quite a feat.

Apparently its just the perilla mint thats a concern. I didnt see anything about the other types being a problem. Also apparently, its supposed to be pretty good to eat, the Japanese love it.

So far, the plant is doing well under the grow light. I turn the light on when I get up, and off shortly after sundown.

You might want to pick up one of those cheap dial outlet timers off amazon. It doesnt seem like much, but its nice to not have to deal with every little thing like flicking lights on and off.

But... my whole idea was to make my bathroom, and possibly my room, smell like mint.

Just keep your light on 24/7. I have some vines in a jar (some type of ivy) that grows fantastic in my small bathroom if i keep the light on.

It's only going to be in my bathroom. I have no intention of putting it outside.

With how hardy they seem to be, I wonder why it's so hard to make them flourish inside.

Lotta things won't flourish inside.
I would raise two tubs of it.  Keep one on the porch, in the sun, watered and fed.  Keep the other in the house.  Swap out weekly.  Crush a few leaves on the inside plant now and then for a Burst Of Minty Freshness.

My late mother, being of middle eastern heritage, used mint all the time. A Syrian salad with mint and lemon juice dressing (eaten by scooping it up with Syrian bread) is delicious and a big part of my youth. Her plants threw outside along with her grape leaves but they were a broad leaf type not seen here on this post.

While that may work, I can't do it. I struggle to walk, and only with a crutch, so I can't carry things very well. I do the crushing leaves thing though, because I love that smell.

Well that sucks.  I knew you were in a chair but didn't know you had that much trouble getting around the house.  Hopefully for safety's sake you've got somebody checking in on you once in a while!

Will think on this.  Might have to drop you off a fresh Mints On Wheels delivery every month or something.

I wonder if putting it in a large container on a deck or patio would keep it contained?

Does mint survive through the winter?

Both OP and I are in MO?

Yep, the stuff is hardy as heck. I have a plant that gets trimmed back to basically nothing every year, to the point where I fear I will harm it. It comes back with a vengeance, right now it is about 5ft across an spilling all over everything.

I'm over 600mi north of you.
