Just a heads up!

Just a long term cracker that was the staple of Alaska while I was up there. Ate them with everything and in everything. Kinda bland and hard but filling and goes with anything. They will outlive you lol!!

Dollar Tree sells a very similar cracker - for a buck a box.

They're great for the kitchen pantry - Never seem to go stale.

I have.  There are tons of reenacting sites out there that will give you various methods. It isn't hard to make but mixing it can be a real chore depending on the ratios of flour to water.

I still have some from a batch I probably made 15 years ago, it doesn't really go bad but never is particularly good.

Since you aren't a reenactor you can play with the recipe to make it more palatable,  add salt, maybe something to leaven it.  Salt and leavening supposedly can contribute to it going stale over time.  Drawing in humidity.

It is fun to experiment with.  If you screw up and make a particularly hard batch it could make a great gag gift.  lol.

@Skibane

Can you take a picture of the box for me? I don't get into Dollar Tree very often and want to know what I'm looking for. Thanks!

If you guys are interested in a price comparison, all my local grocery stores stock Sailor Boy pilot bread crackers for $7.90 per 2lb box.  So, the Amazon link in the first post seems to be a decent shipped price.

Crap, I left empty handed after seeing this thread and going to find some. They had this brand and I skipped them over because I didn’t think they were the right ones.

Turned out to be a bust. I went back and they had vegetable crackers in the same box and same brand but different color. I’m sure I can order online and pick up in store...

Sailor boy crackers are not bad at all easy to make meals with be it PB&J or pizza my kids loved them also!

Hate that I can't find them in Texas! They are great to have around also they are not that bad! Have had worse like MRE crackers! Really they are not that bad!

Not bad with some jelly or cheese spread. If I could find a source of jelly packets that aren't a week away from expiration I'd take some as a snack for hiking.

Are these the same crackers that used to come in the "B" unit cans of the 70's-80's era C-rations (MCI's)? They look really similar.

Taste about the same and about the same size or maybe a little larger.

I like them because they're sturdy and don't go stale easily. I used my foodsaver to vacuum seal some and put them in mylar bags and gamma-seal pails. Will open them up in 5 or so years and give them a try.  YMMV.

You get half the size cracker and a little less amount than a box of Sailor Boy's for double the price. They also taste different. But I do like the sealed can.

This is a great deal and are lightly salted. Cheaper than two packs of the other kind. I got them on sale and was extremely pleased.
