Interesting.

But before the "savior of the subdivision" pollyannas run to this as an example of their misplaced ideas working post apoc, let's consider a few things-

1. Notice the "1 Million a day in avocado sales"- big money is behind this, not a bunch of broke suburban yuppies.

2. Mexico is not the U.S.   We are talking about campesinos that are used to rough life already, not suburban version of "rough life" as in having to wait 2 extra minutes at Starbucks for a double mochafagicino.   Are Mexicans tougher in general than suburbanite Amerikans? I would submit most definitely.   Juan and his family are used to running water going out intermittently if they even have it in the first place. They know that work= survival.

3. While stuff is bad there, it's evidently more of a high crime situation than a real TEOTWAWKI situation.

So is there LESSONS there? Sure. Is it an example that Amerikan preppers can use to justify "savior of the subdivision" fantasies? Probably not.

Applying it to an Amerikan suburban subdivision- is Bill the tech guy going to bank roll paid security for the entire "community?"  Bill Gates maybe, the dude that lives two McMansions down from you, no. Even if he could, what could he PRODUCE in the suburbs to continue to pay for it? What is his motivation to continue to flit the bill for everyone?

The important thing to note  is that it's based on agriculture and a LARGE sales amount which equals $$$ to pay for these things.

A bad avocado season, major disease or pest problems would cause a problem with this. Hopefully the ag is diversified there.
