I live next to a "one world" share everything liberal.
He has a neuro-muscular disorder that eventually confined him to a wheelchair.
He has no issue asking me to do small favors even though his 24yr old son lives home...

Day before yesterday:
He texts: Got any Calcium Chloride?
I reply that I just dropped a bag at my parent's house.
He texts: Got any more?
I reply that I have some sand in pails that will need to be thawed...send the kid.

Within an hour 2 guys in a landscape truck are salting his driveway.

We both have steep downward from the street driveways
I have 3 bags of calcium which gets us through the winter.
I meticulously shovel my driveway during and after each storm.
They called a plow after the storm and ended up with a ski slope of ice after the sun came out and the drive melted and then it refroze.

Take away:
He'd prefer to bother me than his kid, he'd prefer to pay somebody than ask me to pick him up some calcium.

I think I'm pretty charitable but I'm not depleting assets or energy at the expense of my family.

Sounds like you need to be straightforward in your communications with him.  I have given up trying to maintain relations with shitty neighbors.  Call a spade a spade and move on.

Agreed...their first kid ended up going through Rehab for Heroin so this one he really babies.
Oddly enough the older kid squared himself away and is uber focused and reliable...me moved across country...I see a parallel.

Charity is helping those that can not help themselves.

What you're doing is being a sucker.

Will your neighbor replace the used calcium chloride in a timely manner?

Why on earth does he have you cell number?

This man and his useless son will be of no help for any situation you could think of.

Next time you see the kid, corner his ass and chew him a new one for living there and not taking care of business

All responses in one post:

All resources are stored away from his prying eyes.

He has my cell # because our kids played sports together.

He would not repay me, but his wife would get funds to us.

The kid is an air frame mechanic and works odd shifts, I will speak to him at some point.

His wife is constantly giving him the eye roll...she's a old time townie and works hard to pay their bills.
He's always looking for a freebie.
