It's not the certifications that always count, its your performance on the job. There are too many people out there that have all kinds of certifications, but not a clue what to do on the street. Of course you will always find those guys that need to inflate their ego, have all kinds of certs, think they know what to do and are in charge. They are the ones that just scew evereything up when they get to the scene. There are only three people that you can count on when things get bad. Yourself, a good partner and God. Very well put. But do not forget that the way we train will be the way we react in an emergency. Neither 'street smarts' nor training alone will help you (or your victim/aided/patient) It is a combination of these two things added with the common sense that God gave (or failed to give) you that will see you through to a successful resolution of the emergency.

STAY SAFE and LOW!

I totally agree!  Looking back, I do have a ton of certs, but that doesnt mean anymore than the paper that they are wrote on.

I have met folks from the largest of cities that have no clue(one comes to mind recently where a career Lt from a large city here in Va once told me that his truck even carried a 5" diameter HAND nozzle (and those around here thats used 5" lines know they are pretty much an above ground alaskian pipeline) for those really big fires, and he knew his guys could carry and handle it....when asked for him to show it, it was sorta out of service???)

Yet I have met folks that had to pencil the lettering in on their trucks, had no clue what SCBA was, and hydrants?  What were they?
And these guys had more respect for one another, for their trucks, and could find more ingenouis to fight fires than I could ever think.

We come from all walks of life, I am just glad to be part of the family!

rule303,

If your account hasn't been locked already, you need to read the other rules, specifically the Forum Conduct Rules 1 and 6:

CONDUCT GUIDELINES

1) No racial slurs or comments. This isn't about being "PC" it's about respecting each other.

6) Pure trolling. Either to piss someone off or simply for your personal enjoyment. If you're here to cause trouble, it will be a very short stay.

You're a rule violator, rule.  Take your attitude out of your posts, or take your backside off the forum.
