I just picked up a Magellan mobile gps unit for my patrol car...Is this tax deductible??? BTW it kicks ass!!!. Very handy.

If you use it for your patrol car then yes, you probably will have to document it's use or something to that effect.  Obviously ask someone who is a tax specialist since I am not.  But normally when you purchase anything that will be used for work it is deductible.

I would say if you bought it yourself and use it for work-related you probably could

Most definitely!  Money out of your pocket for items to be used on the job are completely tax deductable.

I wrote mine off a few years ago, I am not LE but I use it in my work to log log/lat. for scene information.

I plan on it.   I bought a personal one because all of our street signs, and landmarks, are gone from Katrina, and I am tired of being lost all of the time and not being able to find addresses.

If you think Magellan kicks ass, you should have tried Garmin.
