I loathe fire engines that are not red. Lime-green? yellow?

I've only ever seen the yellow ones on a flightline.

When I worked at GLakes (pre-BRAC) their rigs were slime green. The reason was that "someday" they might get transferred to a base with a flightline, so they just spec'd that color.
I think they didn't give one sh*t and didn't want to take the time to change the specs. Now that the base is a little more secure in it's existence they just got a nice quint that's the appropriate color.

Here in Vegas, the Las Vegas FD has red trucks, the Clark County FD has yellow rigs.

Ours are all red. Different shades of red, but all red. I don't mind the black over red though. We did use to have an engine that was white. UGLY!

Never seen our neighbors to the north? The only red ones they have are the old Millard trucks. |

Fort Worth FD uses white trucks w/ a blue stripe.
I personally cant stand the yellow, lime green and purple. |

I can't believe you guys are even talking about the color! Hell, I'd be happy with a engine that holds more than 500 gallons and is newer than 1976!!! I'd take any of the trucks pictured so far in Pink, purple, lime green or any combination thereof!

What can I say, we run out of 2 main stations (have 3 or 4 other "stations") and in our 2 stations we have a 2005 ALF engine with 1,000 gal tank & my engine is a 99/00 Freightliner/Darley 1,000 CAFS engine Course we cover 19 square miles less than in the entire state of Rhode Island & only average around 450 calls a year while covering parts of 2 major interstates. |

Just be glad your engines match! Out of 10 stations in my department I think we have every color made. White, lime green, half a dozen shades of red and in my station we have the nicest engine in the depart, that was spec'd by us but unfortunatly it's blue!

I guess I've never noticed, or it never registered with as rarely as I've ever seen any up there. The only time I would've been on a call with one, it would've been Millard. |

Our's are white with a blue stripe. They've always been that way for as long as I can remember. Easier to tell them for the other towns at night at a multi-response incident.

The one in my town(North Palos Fire Protection District, Palos Hills IL) are red with black painted on the top and on the tops of the sides and with gold lettering. The Ambulances are red and black.

Firetrucks are supposed to be red. Whomever decided to puke on one of them and call it an appropriate color had issues.

agreed. it seems like every few years some know-it-all drags up the issue of increased visibility via stupid colors.....again. If you cannot notice a big truck driving down the road, painted red, sirens blaring, red lights flashing, you have got a problem greater than the color green will cure.

A big city FD out east (Philly? P'Burg?) fell for that line too. Then they discovered that at night, in a snowstorm, the yellow hue of the sodium vapor lights turns the rigs white... nice results in a blizzard. They next engines were Imron Red

Our engines, trucks, and ambulances are all red, with white, (and in some cases black) trim.

Go go gadget tiller! One of the A/C's on a FD south of us was at the same FD I started at (when I was but a pup) and he was a T'man. They finally had to get rid of it when the FF's kept nailing cars on base (according to rumor control...) |

I have seen most of the colors put up here but Mt Horeb WI has all black equipment with I believe some gold trim. It is the towns pride and joy thing they are really into it looking for the pic I took of them when in the town one day

I work for 2 different departments. Ours are both RED with the exception of our ambulances, which our WHITE! As god intended it to be! When I see yellow trucks I always wonder if the company was just using up some old school bus paint??h.gif

Our entire fleet was lime green at one time but has been changed(except for a couple of spares) to traditional red either through new purchases or refurbs by succeeding chiefs.
They look more like fire trucks now than DPW trucks. |

Here's one for the WTF?! File:
  ISTR that the premise was that the town has a benefactor whose only stipulation is that their color has to be purple. Comply with that, and he buys them a new truck every few years. Or that's the story that I was told. This is in Westmoreland County, PA ISTR... ETA: One of their funkier old back-up pieces. A LaFrance, I believe, of which very few were built with that cab design. |

Man I hope you have jack stands under there!
Red it should be. The yellow idea was from a single research program that found yellow/puke green was more visable at night. They didn't factor in THE FLASHIN LIGHTS! Frikkin idiots. Red is to be seen and stand out and it does it very well. All of my departments are red except a few loaners that we can't change. Hell, even my personal type 5 wildlands engine is , get this, FIRE ENGINE RED. |

No jack stands, don't have the room. But there is a big rock under the rear axle. Don't have to worry much as I am on a Helitack crew and just bump over once a year or so to keep my Engine Boss quals. |
