PHILADELPHIA - A city police officer had been brought to Temple University Hospital after possibly being grazed by a bullet during a struggle around 3:30 p.m. on North 3rd Street, and the alleged shooter has been shot and killed.
Philadelphia Deputy Police Commissioner Richard J. Ross appeared outside of the hospital with Mayor Michael Nutter to speak with the media about what he described as a “chaotic” event.
"We are very fortunate that Officer Nicoletti is fine," said Nutter.
Police office Richard Nicoletti, 25 and a three-year veteran of the force and military veteran, and his partner, Officer Matthew McCarthy, had responded to a call for a suicidal man in a home located at 1734 North 3rd St., in the city’s Kensington neighborhood.
He is doing well, out of hospital - apparently it was a suicidal male with a knife, got a hold of the officers gun and discharged it twice once into the officers vest once at his partner - then his partner shot and killed the male.
