I'm only 20, but I'm going to go off on a tangent about why the hell teenagers seem to have no clue what manners are.

I was in line at Subway today and about to give my order when a high-school age girl walked right up, stepped in front of me, and rattled off her order.  I said "Excuse me, but I was in line before you."  She snapped back "I really don't care, I'm in a hurry."  So I replied "Well excuse me Miss Thang, but so am I, and I was here first.  This will only take me two minutes, think you can wait that long?"  She snorted, rolled her eyes, and got in line behind me.

What the hell?!!! I really don't understand why so many teenagers have this attitude that they own the world.  Doesn't anyone raise their kids to be polite anymore?  Pardon me, but I guess I didn't get the memo.

Those who take crap from others deserve it

It's a dangerous trend that will not likely go away.  Parents are becoming more and more licentious with their children.  I cite as evidence:

1) Your experience at Subway.

2) DVD players in the backs of vehicles.  This might seem like a neato technology advance, but at the root of it is parents not wanting to make their children behave during long (or even short) car trips.  It's easier to give in to keep them quiet.

3) Children's movies hitting #1 on debut weekends.  I know a lot of this had to do with tactical releasing (not going up against another prospective blockbuster), but a lot of it has to do with the same idea as above.  It is easier to send the children to a movie than make them behave at home.

4) Video games sales (especially violent ones).  See 2 above.  Parents are so clueless they don't even know  about WTF Grand Theft Auto et al are.

5) PopTart CD/concert sales.  Britney/Christina/The Idiots Simpson/et al.  'It's harmless fun/girl power.' See 2 and 3 above.

6) Slutty/Thugsta' clothes sales.  Many parents are more concerned that their children 'fit in' than learn important messages/concepts.  My children will go to private schools with uniforms if I have to rob banks to afford it.

7) The idea that the legal system needs to know why.  This is true of the left for everyone, but especially of children.  "We need to find out why Ted Bundy Jr killed all those other kids."  No we don't - we punish him.  If the psychiatric community wants to know why that's on them.  I knew long before I hit age 12 that murder was wrong and forever.  Look at the kids in England that mutilated the 2 or 3 year old - they are being protected by the government and I think being given money to start new lives.  I know that is the UK and this is the US, but it trickles over here slowly.

How's that for a rant?

These teenagers most likely were parented by moms who were too busy catering soccer practice to notice that their kid just whacked their teammate in the shin because they felt like it.  You get the idea.

Parents who aren't parents.

We were out for dinner one night. Across from us was a couple with an older girl, maybe 11 or 12.
She was bitching to her parents about wanting to walk around and them saying no. Behind, still across
the aisle from us were about 5 small children in a booth alone. Behind them were obviously their 3 mothers
paying absolutely no attention to the children. There was food everywhere, on the table, on the floor, and
on the children. Three of them had no shoes on and one of them was under the table eating off the floor.

So my wife makes a comment to me about these out of control, obnoxious children. Apparently one of the
"mothers" heard her comment and comes over to be confrontational about us saying something
about her child acting like a small furry mammal in a cave. I told her she needed to actually pay attention
to her child since he was eating off the floor. (I've eaten some pretty nasty things at SERE and JEST and I
wouldn't have eaten off the floor. And this is coming from a guy  who found a dead fly missing a wing
and two legs in his food at the Merchant Marine Club in Dodge. After inspecting and showing it to my friends
at the table I flicked it away, look at my friends and finished lunch.  That was a nasty, dirty, gritty
floor. Bugs is now thing, shit is something else all together) What did Mommy Dearest do? She got
all pissy and said how dare we comment about her child. And told us we needed to "get a life if all you
can do is say nasty things about children."  Fortunately they had actually finished eating and left right
away. The girl at the next table watched this with big eyes. Her father said to her, "See, that's why you
don't run around in restaurants." She was a perfect little lady while we were there.

And what's up with all these kids today that don't know how to eat with there mouth closed? Or how to
hold a fork properly? My niece is 14 now and still has manners like a pig. Oh wait, she's my sister-in-laws
daughter. The one who feeds her kids hot dogs and chips all the time.  And no longer comes to
my house because I have guns! Damn, would she be upset to know I carry. At her house too!

A short story. In which a played the part of idiot uncle. Two kids who lived in the house where all the
children in the neighborhood caught the bus started beating up on my nephew.  I mean running him
down on his bicycle, pulling him off and beating the crap out of him. Sister-in-law wouldn't call
the cops, stopped letting her kids play outside and started driving them to school. I was baby sitting (yes,
for an 11 and 13 year old when these kids showed and start throwing around my nephews bike.
You know, jumping on the spokes, throwing up in the air on the driveway, etc. Having raised three
children already (Thank God my kids grew up a long time ago) I knew these little b*****ds would
never stop until they were actually taught a lesson. So I went out a yelled at them, older one turns around
and says FU. Needless to say I came unglued on him. When I grabbed both of them by the neck and
demanded to know where they lived the older told me his father would kick my ass. So I escorted
them home with a fist wadded up in the back or their shirts. When I got to their house I kicked
on the door. Well, the "man" of the house answers the door with a beer in his hand and demands
to kown what the F*** (see where kids get this stuff) I think I'm doing touching his kids. I launched
both of them into his face.  He started to be all tough and aggressive at which point I told him that
if he set one foot our the door I would shoot him dead where he stood. (Here's the idiot uncle part)
I then lifted my shirt enough to show him my XD on my hip. Well, he turned snow white and then
to add to my stupidity I told him if I even remotely got a hint of a problem with his children from
anyone in the neighborhood I burn his house to ground with him and his family in it.  Apparently
these folks have had experience with this kind of reaction from their neightbors before and didn't
do anytihing except keep their kids closer to home.  My sister-in-law still had to drive her kids to
school every day but the beatings stopped. They moved away a few months after this. But not before
getting multiple visits from the police. I honestly think one of the cops told the father he mgiht
have an "accident" if he didn't move far, far away.  Okay, that wasn't a short story. And now I'm
not in the habit of brandishing or act stupid. In 13 years of carrying this is the only time I've ever
done somthing like. But this guy, man I wanted to put him down like a rabid dog.  I'm sure those two
boys will grow up to become fine upstanding citizens of the gray bar hotel.

Sorry about the rant. But this is one subject that just really sets me off.  When I grew up we weren't
afraid of the cops. Oh, my lord no, its was what my Dad was going to do to me. "Please Mister Policemans,
lock me up and throw away the key, just don't call my Dad!" And if he had to leave work over something
I did! Katy, bar the door!

My dad would have kicked my ass for behavior like that.  Mom would have, too, for that matter.




Hey, now that I think about it, they still would.  Even though I'm 38 (maybe especially because I'm 38 and should know better)!  Bad manners = trash.  Period.

'Class' is one thing that never goes out of style.  It has to be taught, however, and many parents these days don't seem to want to take the time/make the effort.  Doesn't have jack to do with how much money one has or makes, either.  Sometimes the richest kids are the worst.

I CANT FUCKING STAND THE WAY THESE LITTLE PUNK ASSES ACT.  I am just about to turn 20 in november.  All these little kids think there badass mother fuckers and they act that way.  One of the worst parts of town for the type of girl you describe (down here in the houston area) is KATY.  I can stand it, DIRTY FUCKING SLUTS EVERYWHERE. All the guys think there bad asses and if you look at them they want to try and dog you into a fight.  Straight up, lets fight then bitches.  

parents need to get control over there kids.

I'm afraid the terrible manners, ignorance of social norms, decency and consideration for others is on its way out, and will probably never return to the way it should be.

Thankfully I dont live in Katy either....I only have to work here. Even the "adults" wine out here in katy.  As a dispatcher I have to hear it all over town and my area runs from 610/katy fw all the way down south past meyerland all the way out to katy tx.  out of that large portion of harris co, the most calls come from katy.  bunch of pussies.

Well, I am only 23, and I am bothered by it as well.  Manners aren't only neglected, they are discouraged these days.  My kindergarten teacher actually called my parents and asked them to make me stop calling her "ma'am" because none of the other kids did it.  How sad is that?

I still say 'Yes, Ma'am' and 'Yes, Sir' to most adults older than me.  Respectful treatment of elders sticks with you, and I'm glad for it.

That's disgusting.  I thought this was something of the last 5 years or so -I had no idea it started over 15 years ago.

Those kids are in the minority.  I believe a majority of kids are OK, given their partents are also.

My son was walking home and saw a wallet in a mud puddle in front of a house, next to a car yesterday.  He went to the door and knocked.  When a guy came to the door my son said he just found a wallet on the ground, gave the wallet to the guy and walked away.  A block away this guy comes running toward my son, yelling at him.  My son turned and was thinking he was going to get into a fight about some missing money or something.  Well, the guy wanted my son to stop so he could give him a reward.  They guy said he only had $25 and it was now my son's.

I'm proud of my son that he did the right thing, but you know a parent always wonders a little.  Its nice to know he'll do the right thing, even when I'm not around.

Years ago when our 2 girls were in early elementary school we went to a ritzy restaurant in the next town and had a great Thanksgiving dinner. The next Valentines day, I took my wife, sans bambinas, to the same place. When we were to be seated our server came up and said, "Oh, you are the couple with the sweet girls- they are so well mannered.", or words to that effect. Talk about some chests puffing out! (Did SHE ever get a tip!). The parents of the little sociopaths will never experience that feeling. Are they ever missing out.
