Is it illegal for me to ship parts  of guns back to the US?

I'm deploying next week.  I'd like to bring back form parts/mags for the AK.

It is not illegal to ship parts through the US mail (except enough parts to make a handgun in one package or a complete handgun). You might run into problems with the military rules for gun parts. Right now there is an almost theatre wide proabition against AK parts including magazines. Bayonets have recently been approved to bring back as trophies.

You need to examine laws closely...  In general misc parts are not a lot of worry.  Fire control parts/receivers/abrrels, etc. generally need paperwork.
