haha yes, it can be legal if you know the head sheriff or chief of police in your area. He has to approve it, but unless you guys are beer buddies or something, fat chance you'll get it approved.

Add the Attorney General to that list.  California only allows special permits for SBR's after approval by the DOJ.  Doesn't happen unless you are a "special friend."

yeah kalifornia requires a state issued permit for any NFA weapon except AOWs but other Ca law has banned every damn AOW anyway. you have a better chance of making ice in hell then getting that permit in Ca.

All of the above is correct.  You stand about as much chance of getting an SBR permit as a snowball in Hell in July.  You can't even carry a shuriken (throwing star) concealed.  To legally carry an automatic knife you have to be missing one arm.  The state damn near outlawed potato guns this year, and the author of the bill was a Republican (though in Assemblyman Jay La Seur's defense he did withdraw it).

I'd mention some of the things you CAN build or own legally here but they'd probably ban them like they do everything else I enjoy.
