This is a legal question: Does the BCA’s list of “semiautomatic military-style assault weapons” include post-ban weapons?

In other words, would a Bushmaster XM15 ES2 (or any other post-ban AR type) be considered a “copy or duplicate” of a Colt AR-15? I know this is not so with the national ban.

If anyone has bought a post-ban AR-15 variant in Minnesota, did you have to go through the local background check (the same one you have to do in order to buy a hand gun)?

Thanks to anyone who responds.

Yes, you do have to go through the back ground check.

You have to be 21 years old, and have a Minnesota State Permit to Acquire Handguns from Federal Firearms Dealers.  The permit is basically a longer version of the yellow paperwork that you fill out when you buy a gun.

I have purchased many postban AR-15's since 2000, and have had no problems.
