Last night I told friends that I was going off to finish up a large drafting assignment, but rather than doing so, I decided to sneak off to a theater 3 miles away.  I ditched my drafting supplies behind their front counter, and wanted to see if the movie was really as good as the reviews said it was.

The movie began, slowly, a good change from Blackhawk Down, but still suspenseful & emotionally gripping.  Then the fighting began.  As the action began, I peered to the left after hearing "That's not right, we landed under fire..." after the first choppers flew in to the LZ.  It was a much older man accompanied by his children & his wife.  Later in the movie when the choppers were dropping people off without touching down I overheard him whisper, "That's how my squad dropped in..." as he told his daughter.

Throughout the movie he was grasping the armrest tightly and clearly shaken up.  Later in the film he chuckled when SGT with the 1911 said "Today was a good day..." or something like that.  Also after hearing towards the end of the movie something about never forgetting the screams & visions of this war he commented, "That's Unfortunately True."

Long after the movie I sat through the whole credits in silence for respect, then began walking out.  On their way out, they were helping their father down the aisle when the daughter was in disbelief of her father actually being in that mess.  I noticed he had a VFW jacket on & many pins all over it...

I'll admit, I wanted someone to drop 2 grenades into the crowd of reporters also...  Reporters do not belong in wars, and Bush is smart to keep them out.  No matter how much you guys want information from the front, I think it's best to keep reporters out.

When I was walking home from this movie last night I realized that this new genre of movies are not just a view to watch.  It is an Experience based film, and I will know how I it makes me feel to watch these films for the first time.  I am glad that there is finally a movie without Oliver Stone's dope smokin' pseudo-dramatical bull-shit, but ones with real combat portrayals with a great deal of reality.  Platoon was a good movie, don't get me wrong, but it didn't accurately portray Vietnam Combat as I was told by veterans.

 To sit in there to re-live the experiences or the nightmares that these soldiers have had is not easy.  I hope that he won't have any nightmares after watching this movie. I'm very proud of these VN vets.

I am currently 1/4 of the way through the book. What these soldiers went through at LZ X-Ray is indescribable. Soldiers who had been hit numerous times still taking the fight to the enemy. The "lost platoon" holding off attack after attack. I haven't gone to the movie yet. I hope it does justice to the soldiers who served.

That is one of my absolute spookiest parts of the movie...  The "Lost Platoon" is REALLY freaky!  "I can smell them crawling towards us..."  Another, "Naw, that's just the dead ones all around us..."  "...Need Illumination ...coordinates..."  Freaky shit calling artillery on the 50+ NVA 10 feet in front of you!  My body still shakes thinking of that scene...  In the theater a girl in the back let out a blood-curdling scream when the flares lit up the area in front of them...  One damn good movie!
