I currently live in eastern Pennsylvania, and I HAVE TO get out. I can't stand it here any longer, New York is slowly oozing it's way south and Jersey it's way west. The "New Yawk"
attitude is like a disease - poisoning and multiplying it's way to me, I have to leave...
So, I am calling on the vast knowledge of the AR-15.com family to help me out in my time of need - what state should I move to?
 Here is what I want:
(in order of importance)

1) Low Taxes
2) Good schools, hospitals, ect..
3) Very Un-restrictive gun laws.
4) Low crime rate
7) Warm climate - I hate the cold, Absolutely
  F'ing hate it.
6) Low Population

Above all I want it to be a very Conservative
area. ( I did not list that because no primarily liberal areas would be able to fit that criteria)

I want to have strangers smile and say, "Good morning" when you pass them on the street. It to be a good place to raise a family.
On the coast would be nice but it's not all that important.

Thank you

oh yea,
Good paying jobs must be available, I will have a B.S. in Business Administration - specifically Accounting.

Thats like saying....
I want a large heavy hitting caliber, but I don't want much recoil.....

I want a fast car, but I want good gas mileage....

I want a hot girl, but she's got to have a head on her.....

Ya get my point?
Can't have a pro without a con, vise versa.

mojo knows where it's at - it's Texas!

Conservative as all get-out. No state income tax. Low property tax. Great looking womenz.

We send our gays to the left coast. Just keep enough in the big cities for fixing our great looking womenz' hair and interior decorating purposes only!

Liberals need not apply!

Close to the Border, so fast getaways are not out of the question.

Class III rules in this state. Easy CCW laws.
Gun shows literally every weekend!

Gun culture rules.

Did I mention great looking womenz?

No state income tax [in Texas].

Sounds like a winner.  Of course, I might just be overly sensitive to state income taxes considering I just finished my state tax return, and I have to pay, a lot.  I don't get it.  I work seven days per week most weeks and my wife still works 30 hours per week, but we don't have much to show for it.  Frustrating considering I pay more in state income taxes than I have to spent on luxuries like a car or better food (steak vs. bologna).z

Sounds like you would fit in well in southside Virginia!  Only cold for about a month out of a year, class 3 state, open carry and shall issue...the only thing bad is 1 gun a month law (I wish I was affected by it0 [:D]

Pick the state with the best guns laws. All other concerns are secondary.

States NOT to move to:

Mass.
N.J.
Calif.

Best (most lienient) states:

Penn.

All others, I'm not sure about but think they fall somewhere in between. Ohio sucks but livable. Haven't heard the aftermath of the Hamilton county judge who declared anti-carry laws unconstitutional.

I know you now live in Pa.  Think you should reconsider.

I've been keeping my weather eye out for favorable conditions elsewhere.
A quick word about Las Vegas. I read in todays paper www.pressdemocrat.com about a crisis in malpractice insurance that is causing the majority of doctors to shut their practices down and move out because malpractice lawsuits and insurance have gone way out of control.

(Edited to say I don't see the story online)

Oregon, I'm starting to wonder about. I've heard a few too many stories that are just strange. Jury's out on that one.

My main issue with Nevada, Texas, Arizona is that I need to be able to look around and see trees, green growing things and bodies of water once in a while. Even just a creek.

Been through Nevada and can't afford Alpine Village.

Idaho is kinda nice.
Fly fishing, golf, 2nd ammendment friendly. But it can get cold.
Utah is ok, if you don't like the cold, St George generally stays pretty warm.

Not that anyone will take me seriously, but....

7) Warm climate - I hate the cold, Absolutely

6) Low Population

Axel- Check out the Wahoe Valley/Lake area south of Reno.  Water veiws and reasonably affordable.  We are looking to buy there in the next couple years.  Of course we have to hope that those old liberal Californians retiring to Vegas start dying off.  Hell, Gore almost won the state.  Now if we could just make San Francisco and LA their own states, California would be the best state.

Mississippi has most of what you want.  Spend some time here and you'll be saying "I hate humidity and mosquitos, absolutely F'ing hate them".  You have to take the bad with the good.  You won't find a nicer bunch of folks to live with, for the most part.  We don't have big cities, so no one is around to treat you like they live in one; if ya know what I mean.

Nope, all the stories are true. Each and every one of them. And it rains, all the time, never-ending rain. (but only 12 months out of the year...)

There has to be as least one trade off. Get a couple of wood stoves and move to VT. We have no CCW laws, because we don't need them. You can have what you want, and are only restricted in carry by the weight of the firearm. (not in court houses or inside schools or post offices, we are working on that). We have great warm weather the third Thursday in July! Stay away from Burlington, our socialist center, and you will be fine.

Northern New Mexico...mountains, trees, rivers and lakes, very green and very nice. When winter comes, head south to Albuquerque so you  can snow ski in the AM, drive 10 minutes and play 18 holes in the afternoon? New Mexico is so gunfriendly we have a type of carry named for us....NM Carry!

In addition, if you have a modicum of ability and a good work ethic, you will be a sought after commodity and able to write your own ticket in the job market. The salaries seem higher compared to elsewhere due to the low cost of living.

The only downside is that Texans feel that New Mexico is just another county in west Texas and are always under foot.[:D]

I was born in Southeastern PA.  I currently live in TX, but before here, lived in AZ.  You can't go wrong with either TX or AZ, both of which should meet your requirements.  Texas' taxes are lower, but Arizona's weather is better.

You know, of course you can find most ANY kind of terrain in Texas.

You want trees? Try the Piney Woods, East Texas, Crockett National Forest, all that.  Or the Texas Hill country, west of Austin and San Antonio.

WASHINGTON STATE.

Pros:
Beautiful country.
Mountains; desert; ocean; rivers; trees; rain forest.
Weather is mostly mild and it does rain for 9 months of the year.
We get heat and snow, too.
Eastern Washington is the 'right' side of the State.
Canada is close, if you want to go to a different country.
Oregon is close, if you want to go to a different country...
Idaho is right next door to the east.
Hunting and fishing are good here.
CCW laws are "shall issue".
If Washington were a country, I think it would be the 5th most powerful nation on Earth...

Cons:
The Governor is a Democrat.
The State Legislature is Democrat.
Seattle is the San Francisco of the North; or NorthKalifornistan, depending on how you look at it.
WAY too many liberals in the Greater Seattle area.
Did I mention there are too many liberals here?
Oh.

Arizona!

Texas is too hot. We have no good looking women. Gun prices are too high. None of these other guys know what they are talking about, we have a huge state income tax. All of the gunshows suck. Full of liberals. Gun laws are terrible. You can't get a signoff for machineguns. We don't get snow, only ice. Crime is rampant. Most people still ride horses.

I would recommend any state but Texas and California! [:)]

OK...here comes the Florida plug.

Northwest Florida (west of Tallahassee).

Republicans outnumber Dems 5 to 1, west of Tallahassee..here in Okaloosa county (Destin, Ft. Walton bch.) it's 8 to 1.

The beach.

CCW, yes, yes. Guns, yes, yes.

Weather: It's Florida.

The beach, sugar white sand and carribean blue Gulf water.

2 Air Force bases within 10 miles of each other, Ranger camp is also located here. SO we "feel" secure with the 33rd TFW and Hurlburt field's Spec Ops C-130's..

Rated as one of the top 10 places to live in the U.S. for 9 years in a row.

The beach...

We have been rated as the top scholastic scoring in ALL three education groups in our State consistently for years...Elementary, Middle and High schools.

The lowest crime rates in the SOUTHEAST not just the state of Florida..must be the military presence that helps.[:D]

The beach...

The secret has gotten out over the past few years about our area...there has been somewhat of a population boom of sorts. Especially from those who have lived elsewhere for the majority of their lives. This is not a retirement area..it is a mid-income, middle America hideaway...and alot of people end up here to escape the rest of the U.S. It is a paradise for a lot of reasons.

The beach...and it's still in the SOUTH!

Which means, common sense, not non-sense rules MOST of the day..

There is a pocket of liberals that lives in Walton county...they have their own little left-wing, commie, orgy town they have built. Every election they cannot understand why we "locals" cling to "old-fashioned" and conservative values. We usually tell them to KMA through the editorials and media...most whom are from NY, Cali,Ohio and other liberal bastions. ALL of our elected officials are Republican except for 1 state congessman from Walton county...

Soooooooo, when you moving here? [:D]

I second Naked-Gunmans remarks... NW Florida.
Pensacola (Escambia) doesn't have as good a job market as Okaloosa or Walton county from what I have been looking at.
If this state service tax passes, FL might minus some points.

This is an interesting thread.

I'm thinking of moving my family out of Kalifornistan.

The original author's list of requirements pretty much exactly match my own.

I'm eyeing the Mountain States, maybe Wyoming, Arizona, or Utah.  Those three are at the top of my list right now.

Concerns I have are mainly what kind of job I can get.  I'm in the software development field.  Probably not much of that in Wisconsin.

Well I can see I'm going to going to have to get around a little.  But, I may be staying In California a while longer than I was thinking a few months ago.  My M-K reciever will be on its way soon to console me until the day I can go after an AR-10.

All you Oregonians, wouldn't you guys want more voters like us to slow down the liberalization going on up there? Or is it pointless to even talk about it?

Axel, east TX is for you pal.

The rest of you may come as you wish, however in order that we maintain our nice quiet little towns, don't forget to go home when the vacation is over. If this request was not made, soon the US would consist of Texas and.......
well, Texas.

Not looking to hurt anybodies feelings with that.
This is absolutely the best place to be, and I am glad to have the opportunity to let all know.

While I am presently looking to move away from Fort Worth, it is exploding with growth, I would recommend it highly to anyone, as it is a wonderful place to live. Just outgrowing my taste.

Please ignore the episode of COPS where the so kindly showed the nation one of our wonderful LEO's chasing a chicken around the street. I thought it was hillarious, then realized that it was on national TV.
