Apparently it was more than just a breakdown in communications.

This comes directly from a Dell employee
Dell does in fact screen customers, and yes, 'Weigand Combat Handguns' was flagged. What should have happened, was a waiver should have automatically been sent to Mr. Weigand, and upon it's return, the sale would have proceeded normally. The waiver was not sent, and the person who told Mr Weigand that the sale was denied, obviously did not know about the process of what happened. Mr Weigand then assumed and proceeded to tell everyone possible that Dell denies sales to firearms related businesses.

I am a Dell employee, and I am a gun owner, an NRA member, and an active defender of our 2nd Amendment rights. My posts here are in an unofficial capacity, but I can say again
DELL DOES NOT HAVE A POLICY OF DENYING SALES TO FIREARMS RELATED BUSINESSES.
Dell does not have an official position on firearms ownership, and does not, to my knowledge, support ANY organization on either side of the debate.

Everyone jumping the gun here, so to speak, is going to make us gun owners look bad. Get the facts, then make your decision. Don't jump to conclusions, that's what the anti's do. Let's not lower ourselves to their level

[blue]Even if it's true, I have a problem with Dell.

What gives them the right/authority/wisdom/crystal ball to look at a company name and unilaterally decide that the computer might be used illegally?

I don't get this treatment buying a ballpeen hammer at Home Depot.  I'm not presumed to be a criminal when buying gasoline at Shell.

What a sanctimonious attitude on Dell's part.

Tell me, do they automatically flag and deny purchases from Los Alamos labs, where they make nukes?  Automatically bump sales to Black & Decker, since they make box cutters like the ones used on 9/11?

Dell better pull their collective heads out of their a$$es.[/blue]

Apparently, by your own words, Dell does have a policy of screening and requiring a waiver (of what?) from gun related businesses.  If the business was something like "Muhammed's Bomb Squad" or "El Queerdos Over America" yes.  "Weigand Combat Handguns" getting flagged is purely an anti-gun policy.  They deserve to be hammered for it.

Jack W. told the truth without embellishment.  That Dell screwed up at every turn does not diminish the fact that they would have refused him without his signature on a waiver.

I was expecting something more along the lines of an official Dell response.

[red]From the Maryland AR15 Shooters Site -

Just has some confirmation and a followup on the Glock List (on Yahoo groups).  Seem's Dell's president called up Mr. Weigand and apologized.  He then offered Mr. Weigand a free PC in the configuration ordered.  Mr Weigand declined stating 'he didn't want to look like he had done all this just so he could get a free PC'.

I'm glad to see Dell corrected the problem, and I was very impressed with Mr. Weigand's integrity.[/red]

DITTO!!!!

So if someone sets up a group promoting child porn and calls it "In Love Of Children" they would not be flagged?  Screw them and their thought police PR lawyers.

I agree here.  I'd bet they would not deny computer sales to a company called "XYZ Adult Productions" for internet pornno sites and webcams.

Wanna toss some gasoline on the fire?

How about someone email this to the Muslim Defense League:

From Matt of Dell Customer Service:

- Why do we screen customers? Imagine if someone from a company called Mohammed's Bombs called and ordered a computer... would you want to be held liable if they used your product in an illegal way?
- Matt
