Finally got this thing assembled! Probably invested 50 hours or so over 2 months getting it together. I built it from a kit from Emperor Clock. I'm regulating the timekeeping and adjusting the chime hammers so the clock is still pulled away from the wall just a bit. The case is solid 3/4" cherry. Movement is their top of the line with 9 brass tubular bells, you can see them in the pics.

I don't have a grandfather clock (yet!), but I do have three wind-up clocks in my home, including a coo-koo clock my sister bought for me in Munich.

I probably spend about 30 minutes a day, at least, making certain that the clocks are wound, and keeping accurate time.

There's nothing like the satisfaction of hearing all three clocks chime at the same time!

Thanks for all the kind words. If you have ever heard the 'chimes' on a big pipe organ, say at church, thats what this clock sounds like when it chimes. As usual, I didn't want to pay the extra $$ for the tubular chimes but now I'm glad I did.

Anyway I can't enough nice things about the Emperor clock company. I had a few problems along the way but every time I called they sent me whatever I needed.

That is one absolutely gorgeous clock!

Yes thats their web site, I would recommend you request one of their printed catalogs. Their web site doesn't really have much.

Its basically just assembly, sanding, and finishing.  The parts are all cut. Some trim parts are too long and you need to trim to fit. The mitres are already cut. Trim cuts can be done with a 90 degree mitre. When I was done with assembly some trim parts projected beyond the rear of the case so I had to sand them down flush with a pad sander.

You need to be able to understand exploded parts diagrams, mostly follow directions. If you scew up a trim piece beyond hope you can get replacements.

The most difficult assembly step for me was installing the internal rails that support the movement. If these are not correctly located, then the dial will not be centered up/down in the case. I decided to err a little 'low' and then used wood shims to bring the dial up to the exact center.

The only power tool you really need is a drill, with countersinks and pilot holes being a must.

Oh I almost forgot, I'm getting "minute of minute" accuracy [smoke]

That thing is sweet ECS. I was hoping you would let us know as soon as you finished it. If you don't mind me asking, what was the total parts cost including the movement? You may have told us before but I forgot.

This looks like something I might like to tackle when I get a little more free time.

I spent $900 for the case and glass.
The movement (their top of the line) was another $1,200.


Their least expensive kits (which are very nice) will probably run around $1,000 for everything.
