Well, in hindsight I probably should have just ignored them...but like an idiot, I answered it.
Here's the story:
It was about 0230 (probably a little after) here. I was just getting ready to go to bed. I'm in college and share a house with two other college students. Someone started ringing my doorbell. I wasn't 100% sure if one of my roommates was even home right now, so I thought he might have been locked out. Normally he has his keys though, so I doubted it was him. He had a few of his siblings visit today, and both of my roommates have friends that swing by the house at odd hours every once in a while. I hypothesized one of them might be coming by for some reason.
Anyway, after about 2 minutes of no one answering the door I figured I'd better go do it, since my other roommates must be sound asleep. I put a shirt on (I was about to go to bed so I was only wearing cotton elastic pants) and armed myself (XD-9 + Gold Dots).
I go downstairs and peek out the window in the front door. There was a ~20 year old woman standing on my front porch. I look around and don't see anyone around besides her. I decide to crack open the door to see what she wants (thought it might have been my roommates girlfriend...). She says she's sorry to wake me up, and she was wondering if she could borrow a phone to make a call. She said she something about not wanting to stay with her boyfriend, and she needed to call someone for a ride.
If letting her use my cell phone for a minute is all that's needed to get her to leave, fine. I go grab my cell phone (yes, I locked the door behind me as she stayed on the porch). I stood behind the storm door while she made the call. This side of the conversation went something like this:
"I need my mom's phone number, it's an emergency. Brad (?) pushed me against a wall and broke my kids things . I can't call the cops, I'm on probation and I'll go to jail if I call them." She gets the number (I'm guessing her mom's) and hangs up. Tries calling that number, no one picks up. Calls another number, says something in Spanish (I could only pick out a few of the words...knowing Spanish would be nice), then hangs up. Tries calling mom (?) again, then hands me the phone back. Says "sorry for waking you up" and starts walking north on the sidewalk. Whole encounter was about 2 minutes.
From the side of the conversation I heard, I was going to suggest she call the cops, up until she said she was on probation and didn't want to call the cops. After that, I wondered if I should call the cops. I decided against it (for now), and then came and typed this up.
Yes, all my doors are locked right now.
I'd be thinking a bit more clearly if it wasn't the middle of the night. Your thoughts?
