What a sorry POS company they are. My friend hit something in the water with his boat and tore off one of his lower units and burned up the water pumps on the other and shortly after that the motors overheated as he was trying to get back in. He lost about 15% of the normal compression on both motors but they say they couldn't do anything because they were still running. They want to replace the banged up lower unit with some POS after market crap because they have a deal with them. And they won't even replace the water pumps because they say they are wear items. I've done insurance claims in my shop for years and seen some sorry azz crap insurance companies try to pull but never have I seen anything like this.

This is one company I would steer clear of no matter what the cost of the policy is.

<insert tongue in cheek>

The decisions they make on claims are usually made in order to preserve capital and make the most profit for shareholders.

I fully support all corporate profits, and will gladly take a hit so that others can profit.  Damn I love it when a company is profitable!!!

Progressive isn't just the company name....
Its a huge den of lefty-ness and your payments to them go to democrats and commies in the form of donations.

I've been with Progressive since I was 18, and I'm 33 now.  They have always treated me well, and fairly, and when I've got quotes from other insurance companies, they were always higher than Progressive's rates, sometimes significantly higher.

That said, I think ALL insurance is the biggest legal racket there is, whether it's auto, homeowners, health care...

...and don't even get me started on American Family Insurance...

They have the cheapest motorcycle insurance. I switched from Allstate. I have both vehicles with them but still carry my homeowners with Allstate since Progressive is a bit to high.

Ever been hit by an uninsured driver? We have, it is not fun. I think the .gov should shoot anyone behind the wheel that refused to obtain insurance.

You hit another person's property, you have no job, you have no money to fix it, and yet you still had enough money to buy the damn car and get a damn license and pay for damn gas and buy damn cigarettes. But I GET TO PAY FOR YOUR DAMAGE MY CAR. No, insurance is the one thing that should be required to drive. Don't like it, just don't drive.

primary cause of loss:  hitting something in the water

secondary cause of loss:  continuing to use motors after severe damage when a towboat should have been called.

determination: primary cause covered, any damage after that - DENIED.  That is how I would do it if I was the claim rep....... YMMV

Also, aftermarket parts are common.  If you want factory replacement parts you will pay through the nose for a policy.  Good luck finding one, I sure as hell don't know of a company offering full factory parts.

they repair accidental damage, not operator misuse.

Can I run my car into a telephone pole then drive off, redline the engine until it dies, then ask for a new engine? NO

Stupid is expensive.

Used to be for my motorcycle for two years. I have USAA so they use Proshitssive.

I got into an accident, the judge said the other guy was at fault. And Proshitssive still would not remove me from being at fault. So i switch to Geico and i saved almost 50% of what i was paying with Proshitssive for the same coverage. And my bike is the only thing i have with Geico.

I will not knowing give business to a company that supports liberals and their agendas.

I have my auto insurance with Agricultural Workers Mutual based out of Fort Worth.  They were a lot cheaper than progressive and offer great service.  I would suggest that if you work in anything that could possibly be consider in the Ag field in TX that you do yourself a favor and contact ag workers to get a quote + see if you qualify.

Oh I don't know, As I said I have been doing insurance claims in my shop for years and only a few times have this kind of crap happened and it's been by companies like progressive. State Farm, Allstate, and the larger companies never require you to use after market junk. They do depreciate a little for time used or age but always have been fair.

Sometimes you just can't see what is under the water and by the time you hit it it's too late to do anything about it. He hit a mud bar with a log on it and by the time he got through it and slowed down the engines had already over heated. This is why you buy insurance on a boat because these repairs are expensive to fix if they happen. Chances are it will never happen but when it does they should pay to put you back to where you were before the accident.

I've had Progressive since I was in high school, making it damn near twenty years now and I have no complaints.

When we got rear-ended by a dumbass on her cell last year Progressive chewed her up and spit her out.

Everything from rental car to doctor visits got covered and Progressive was there in their little SUV taking pics, cutting checks and working claims within the hour.

So post some alternatives to Progressive that offer similar service, coverage and rates nationwide.

I'd love to support a KNOWN conservative company that can match services but I don't think they exist.

I had Progressive for 2 years. Customer service was good if and when I had a question over the phone. Never had a claim or accident. That being said...the second year of coverage they went up twice on me. NO claims, NO accidents, NO credit change (score went up if anything). 4 of my friends also have Progressive. I asked if and when the last increase was for them. Every single one told me they have not had one in years, and most had a decrease that year.

When I called to ask what's up with the increases I was told it was a state wide increase. That everyone in the state of Florida had an increase that year. When I said that can't be true because 4 friends have it and no increase, but a decrease in cost for them, I got the reply....

Uh....Uh....Uh....Uh...we can run your review again. Which they did and came back telling me increase should have been alot more. Yeah, I dropped them.

You should really review your insurance every 6 months.

On another note, what the hell is up with Car Rental REIMBURSEMENT!!! I thought the whole point of insurance was to negate out of pocket expenses. If I get into an accident where it's my fault and need a rental car, I pay for all costs up front then send a bill to my insurance for reimbursement. What a crock of sheeit!!

Rant now over...carry on.

B.

So why didn't he call Seatow when this first happened? He knew he was making it worse by driving back in yet continued to instead of getting a tow. I can understand them not wanting to pay for his mistake.

I have Allstate.  Been with them for almost 20 years.  They have always been good to me when I needed them.
When the stupid lady made a left turn in front of me while I was riding my motorcycle, they paid me for the repairs to my bike.
My wife's son was hit on the right side of his car and forced into on-coming traffic, where he hit someone else head-on.  Allstate paid her (the other party) in the head-on my limits of liability, even though it was not his fault.  They said it was better than taking a chance in court.  My rates were affected.
When my son rear-ended someone (and the other person was ticketed), they sent the adjuster to look at the car, and gave an estimate.  I said I wanted factory parts.  They said "No problem" and covered the difference.
I have that accident forgiveness deal.  My deductible for the last incident was $50.
Whatever has happened, I have never had a problem with them.
