What makes good moonshine "good" is the water. It can't be chlorinated or distilled. I've also found that rye, or "sugar" liquor to be the best in terms of the bead and the smoothness.
The best shine, IMHO, is the stuff where you stuff 3 peaches in the jar and wait a month. I can't tell y'all how good that is. Strawberries, cherries and raspberries are damn good too. Best part is, if you are still not too hammered, you can eat the fruit (they become highly concentrated with alcohol).
