Hotel, which one? They all look the same to me. Looking to get two rooms for five people at about $150-$200 a night, per room. Has to be on the strip. Anyone out there have any input / positive experiences? I could care less, I just plan on spending 5 hours a day in the room, sleep time included, but the others want something decent. Somehow I got tasked with getting the rooms.

ETA: The Luxor looks decent, but the rooms are small at 450 sq feet. Bigger rooms with a double queen would be nice.

I found calling the front desk directly got me a far cheaper room than any online travel service, but try both ways.

I stayed at the MGM Grand a few years back. Was a very nice hotel, and on the south end of the strip.

MGM = DUMP IMO. Hated the place. Too big and they don't treat you like they want your money.

Luxor is a pain in the ass unless you get a room next to the elevators. They only have elevators in the corners of the pyramid, which left us a long walk to our suite.

Why does it have to be on the strip?

I haven't been in several years, but we always preferred to stay downtown in the Golden Nugget. The strip always seemed too touristy, while downtown still held the old Vegas atmosphere.

Downtown or actually north of the Stratosphere is a bit seedy - you have to watch your 6. The strip is better centrally located - Venetian is a sure thing. Mirage is OK, but a bit dated. Bellagio is great - very swank.

Be sure and see Lance Burton at Monte Carlo - get tickets online and I saved 25%.

Have fun - see shows, eat well. Limit the gambling to late night when it's not crowded. The place is dead - 50 cranes standing idle. Deals to be had. Saw an MSNBC add for $197, two days including air. That is CHEAP

The Hilton Grand Vacation on the strip was nice.. did the IWCE show from there earlier this year.
no casino in the hotel which is a bonus

we got the best deal on price-line.

ive stayed at the MGM, new york new york and the mirage. all were nice but the mirage was more centrally located which made walking nice.

here is a trick for you. call the front desk and make your reservations. then check back on their site everyday and keep checking room rates as they will change. when they go down (and they will) cancel your room and rebook.

I signed up for Harrah's "Total Rewards" online and then called them on the phone and got a great deal for Harrah's Casino. Harrahs Casino isn't as ritzy as some of the other properties owned by Harrahs, like Paris or Caesars, but it was still pretty good and it's right smack dab in the middle of the strip with free parking. They gave me six nights for about $370 total (Monday night through Saturday Night), this past April.

Things are pretty tough in Vegas right now, so they're willing to give good rates. You may get better rates by calling their reservations directly, rather than booking online, but at least compare online. All depends what week you're there and what conventions are going on in town as to how hungry they are and how full they are whether you get good rates or not.

Call the Orleans. Great prices especially during the week. They are off the strip but have all the amenities of the strip hotels including a huge casino, bowling alley, movie theatres, pool, spa and large showroom. When you are ready to go to the strip catch the free shuttle over to the Barbary Coast. There's one running every 15 minutes till like 2 AM. I will be there in August and have stayed there several times in the past. If you need more info you can always IM me.

We stayed at the Luxor and loved it ,our room was beautiful .And yes lots of walking.

Luxor has a tower section as well, not just in the corners. I stayed in the Luxor on my first trip to Vegas.

I've always been a fan of the MGM.

Luxor is "out there" as the rest of the strip is concerned. (IMO)

I'm not a fan of the Luxor, on my last Vegas trip I stayed there and had to change rooms 3 times.

First time the room was so close to their new nightclub that you could CLEARLY hear the music until the club closed at 4am.
Second room smelled funny and there was a huge depression in the middle of the bed.
Third room was just filthy, plus still had some pubic hair in the shower and on the toilet from the last guest.

Room 4 was acceptable.

All and all, I would not recommend the Luxor.

T.I is nice, so is NYNY.

The Mirage just remodeled ALL rooms last year and is probably the best bang-for-the-buck on the strip. (I saw the post about the Mirage being "dated". The poster hasn't been there in the last few months, have you?)

The Luxor is teh suxor, IMHO. It is a loss-leader hotel that caters to large groups, usually corporate where someone else is picking up the tab and they want it cheap.

Belagio and Wynn and Caesar's Palace are out of my price range.

Luxor sux balls

Bellagio, Monte Carlo, Venetian are all very nice

Most of the others are all the same

I usually stay at the Rio (big rooms, lots of good restaurants) but it's off the strip.

I miss the Desert Inn - still the best "real" Vegas hotel/casino

The post above has me thinking about the Mirage next time. It's always been a good place, and with a modernization it should be back to being in the upper tier.

Any of the major hotels listed here would work. The Rio may be cheaper and there is a shuttle that takes you to Harrahs. You could save some money and get a nicer room that way. Plus you can check out the palms which is the place to be anyway.

Mandalay Bay is very nice too.

Don't forget to check out The Gun Store on Tropicana and rent yourself some Class 3 goodness.

Like this...that's the way we like to roll in Vegas.

Paris is nice. In fact my wife and I got an upgrade to a suite for next to nothing when we went in January for our anniversary.

Do get a Harrah's Total Rewards Card. You might be able to get a ridiculous deal at Harrah's. We are on our next trip.

It came down to MGM and Luxor. The review I read of the MGM's pool had me wanting to book that up for a while. Going to be there for three days, so I'm sure there is going to be some pool time and I hear the swimsuits can get quite skimpy in Vegas.

We ended up going Luxor all things considered, west tower, adjoining rooms. Like I said before, we are just basically looking for a place to crash at night, so it didn't have to be too ritzy. We did alright at about $122 a room per night for the bigger room. Plus we got a food and drink credit. I did the online thing and calling the hotel directly. It was cheaper online. Can't wait for this trip!!

If you have to be on the strip, I would stay somewhere in the center of it. That way you can walk easily to whatever other casinos you want to see. We stayed at the Monte Carlo and it was decent enough. Unless you are trying to impress someone or money is of no concern, I don't see the point of staying at a high dollar place like the Wynn, Belagio, or the Venetian. They are beautiful casinos, but you are going to be spending so little time in them, I just don't see the point of dropping a lot of cash.

I know you locals probably bang your head against the wall every time you hear this question asked, but bare with me.

I'm sure we will go to a few clubs and Artie Lange is going to be in town, so I'm going to try and catch his act. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any good bands performing that weekend. Kind of pissed about that.

Oddly enough, the only time I've been there I stayed one night in the Luxor and one in the MGM Grand. The Luxor is cool in a novelty sort of way, staying in a pyramid, but beyond that I though it was actually starting to look a bit run-down inside. Elevators are kind of a pain, and I didn't like the casino in there as much. They did have Franziskaner on tap, though, which is awesome.

The MGM Grand was a better quality hotel, and I liked the casino better. Better location too. I'd go with that one instead.

I am open to suggestions. We do ok as far as money goes, but not high end by any means and some of the people in the group can be tight wads.

BTW - I dig the avatar. You can actually see a quarter of my head in a Kevin Smith movie and I had to bust my ass to get on the set!

For clubs I recommend Pure (Ceasers), Lavo (Palazzo), Tryst (Wynn), XS (Encore), LAX (Luxor), Jet (Mirage), Rain (Palms) and 54 (MGM). There are plenty of others but these are all really popular right now and packed with wall to wall ass.

Food: Bellagio for the breakfast buffet is always good.

Rio has the best lunch/dinner buffet IMHO they have EVERYTHING.

Some of my favorite dinner restaurants are Pampas (Brazilian Churrascaria in Planet Hollywood), BOA (Steak and Seafood at Caesers kind of pricey), N9NE (Steakhouse at the Palms), Spago (Caesers), (CUT Steakhouse at the Palazzo, pricey), Taqueria Cañonita (Mexican at the Venetian Canal Shops), Ago (Italian at the Hard Rock).

Some cheaper eats are the Grand Lux Cafe (Venetian and Pallazo HUGE MENU), Hofbrauhaus (traditional German restaurant with huge beer mugs great food and music across the street from the Hard Rock) The Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay (Best Burgers EVER), PF Changs (Chinese at Planet Hollywood) and most of the noodle bars in the casino of most of the resorts.

Also as far as pools go.

TAO beach (Venetian) beats everything out here right now.

Also it is topless but it's $50 to get in.

I was there a couple of weeks ago as some of my friends were in town and staying at the Venetian and I have to say I was FLOORED by all the ass there.

Forgot to mention.

If any of you are going to gamble at all, SIGN UP FOR A PLAYERS CARD!!!!!

I have one for multiple places and I'm always getting offers for free rooms. I have stayed at the Palazzo for about 15-16 nights FOR FREE in the last 6-8 months. Not including Fri.- Tues. this coming weekend for my buddies bachelor party plus I was able to get two extra rooms at $109 a night each for the same days for my friends using the friends and family rate. I have spent about a total of $300 or so out of pocket gambling during that whole time. I just drop $20-40 a day that I'm there in a slot machine and play it till I go broke or am up a bunch so a lot more play is in that total.

Funny thing is I can see the Palazzo from my balcony.

Bellagio is swank. Easily my favorite on The Strip.

Venetian, Mirage, Wynn, and Encore are all very nice and fun places to stay and walk around. Each is unique in their own way and has something different to offer, shows, bars, clubs, shopping, etc.

Mandalay Bay & theHotel at Mandalay Bay are both great spots but they are getting pretty far down The Strip and away from the rest of the cool spots.

MGM is a fucking Maze. Too big, confusing, and impossible to get out of when you are drunk.

Excalibur isn't that great. Luxor it takes forever to get anywhere and is also kinda confusing. Treasure Island ain't as cool as it used to be. Caesar's is also confusing and a little on the cheesy side.

Haven't been to the Rio or New York––New York, and I only walked through Paris and Planet Hollywood when I was last there so I can't talk much about those.

If you want The Strip experience, I say The Bellagio. It is right smack dab, dead center of everything. Get on Priceline you will be surprised at what you can get these days. Also, be very nice to the girls at the front desk, they can usually hook you up.

I've stayed at T.I, Venetian and Luxor in the last three years, in that order. I liked all 3 but the Venetian was the classiest of the 3. T.I. table dealers were the friendliest.

Ok, do tell what the etiquette is for "tipping" the check-in lady. Just walk up, give her your name and hand it over or do you wait until you ask for a free upgrade and then she shoots you down? Educate me.

We are not really a "show tunes" bunch, come to think of it, we have very little culture. We do like to have a good time though. Can anyone give me a suggestion or two for stuff that your run-of-the-mill visitor won't know about or find easily on a website. I know you locals probably bang your head against the wall every time you hear this question asked, but bare with me.

I'm sure we will go to a few clubs and Artie Lange is going to be in town, so I'm going to try and catch his act. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any good bands performing that weekend. Kind of pissed about that.

When you walk up to check in after you give them your name ask the person if there are any upgrades available while flashing $20-40 that you have folded up in your palm.

As far as the second part goes. How old are you and your group? What is the makeup of the people going? Do you like clubs? Need restaurant recommendations? Budget?

Thanks, I might give this a shot. We are mid 20's to early 30's. Definitely will be hitting some clubs up. The only place I know of that we will be eating is some supposed crazy ass brunch that is well known. I know that is not that much info, but someone in the group knows what it is. I am open to suggestions. We do ok as far as money goes, but not high end by any means and some of the people in the group can be tight wads.

BTW - I dig the avatar. You can actually see a quarter of my head in a Kevin Smith movie and I had to bust my ass to get on the set!

At the better clubs you better have a Benjamin in your hand if you are trying to skip the line and even then that might not do it. You pull a $20 and they will laugh their asses off at you.

They are off the strip but have all the amenities of the strip hotels including a huge casino, bowling alley, movie theatres, pool, spa and large showroom. When you are ready to go to the strip catch the free shuttle over to the Barbary Coast. There's one running every 15 minutes till like 2 AM. Yup, I used cheapovegas to get real reviews of the hotels. Good little site.

lots of good info, thanks! I thought Spearmint Rhino went without saying, but I didn't know there was a Rick's in Vegas. I have eaten at a Pampas before in a one of the larger cities in Mexico. I didn't know they had multiple locations. Sounds like the same thing though, Brazilian Steakhouse. We were all confused though because everyone around us were being served and the guys walking around with the skewers just kept ignoring us. We finally figured out that we had to walk up to the buffet and grab a plate. It was smooth sailing from there. Laid back place and awesome food, I would go again.

I have one for multiple places and I'm always getting offers for free rooms. I have stayed at the Palazzo for about 15-16 nights FOR FREE in the last 6-8 months. Not including Fri.- Tues. this coming weekend for my buddies bachelor party plus I was able to get two extra rooms at $109 a night each for the same days for my friends using the friends and family rate. I have spent about a total of $300 or so out of pocket gambling during that whole time. I just drop $20-40 a day that I'm there in a slot machine and play it till I go broke or am up a bunch so a lot more play is in that total.

Funny thing is I can see the Palazzo from my balcony.

I went to the Flamingo, I liked it. It was fairly inexpensive and the room was okay, nothing fancy but who cares about that shit.

The Flamingo also had a really nice swimming pool area.

Bally's has good prices and a nice central location. Other than bally's, you really can't go wrong, they're all pretty much the same. My only advice is to stay in the middle somewhere. It will save you money on cab rides.
