Any suggestions?  I just want it to put together some steel targets and some other small welding projects.

Well, that's what I was thinking.  Any idea about what model?  Will one that runs on 120V be adequate for small projects?

Try ebay or craigslist.

I found out my dad had an old Forney down in a barn and I spent about a hundred bucks getting new cables and it works great.

(BTW: Do you mean SMAW or GMAW?)

ETA: If you mean SMAW, dont get an A/C buzzbox. Those things are cheap because they suck ass.

I'd suggest a small Lincoln 225 "crackerbox". They run about $250, and they will do anything you wanna do, from light stuff to heavier stuff. I have one and they run pretty good for an AC welder. They run off 230V and most Lowe's have them.
