Get the Saiga.

Practical? Eh, maybe... magazines don't slap in fast enough for me to count on it for real life use.

But get some cheap birdshot, put up some targets and unload on them... BIG SMILES.

Mine is a lot of fun.

ETA: Glad I got mine for $279 before the import pause, company switch then big price increase. I should have bought a crate of them.

I just got my Saiga-12 in from centerfire systems yesterday, awesome gun.

I vote Saiga

$575 OTD is a good price, about what I paid after the transfer fee.

Saiga first, build 2nd AR later.

You need to support diversity.

Carbine > Shotgun

All day long and twice on Sunday.

I have a Remington 870. I train with it enough to keep the manual of arms in the muscle memory zone.

The only time I'd reach for a Saiga over an AR would be if I was facing Quarantine-infected enemies or Snyder-style fast moving zombies at CQB ranges.

Barring those two events, people tend to fall down when you hit them with a 5.56mm. The ability to get off second, third, fourth etc. accurate shots in quick succession, carrying more ammo on you than 50 rounds and be able to account for every single hole tells me that the shotgun is not the tool for the job.

Now a Serbu Super Shorty, on the other hand, would be pure sex.
