I either read them or delete them.

Read ones get deleted as soon as they aren't useful anymore.

i wish i could disable gmail spam filtering for my pop email access but last time i tried a few months ago it wouldnt work .

edit: and just to be clear, i delete all my emails about once a week. i save nothing.

In my main webmail account? Thousands. Literally. Nearly unlimited space and no speed impact so don't bother to read or delete most. Just scan the titles.

Where is the 0 option?

I read them or delete them. I have some sort of OCD about unread emails in my inbox.

0 in my home email, countless hundreds in my gov't email.

I could get less spam if I signed up for every porn sight and viagra pusher on the internet than I get in my gov't email box.  Sorry, but I really don't care that the support group women's softball team will be holding practice today.  Nope, really don't care that SMSgt.  Jablome is having his retirement lunch at Applebees after guard mount.  Don't give a hoot that there's a commander's call today at 3.... o, shit, yes I do!!  UNDELETE!!  Lemme see.... don't care about the Tricare climate survey, don't care about native american heritage month, don't care about A1C Slappy in the maintenance squadron's new baby, don't care about Capt. Whatshisface from finanace's selection for Major, blah blah blah

Look, not to sound like a prick, because I'm sure that those emails are important to SOMEONE, but the VAST majority of emails that are sent out on the gov't network most certainly don't need to go to every single person on the base mailing list.

My blackberry as well.  My buddy had over 200 unread messages on his Blackberry at one point and used to show me just because he knew it bothered me.

48.

I've read most of them, but mark them as unread if I need to follow up.

I'm a little behind.

I had around 500 until last week; I pared that down to about 200 and got tired of searching for them.
