Good for her. Won't she be running against "I Take Full Responsibility (but no punishment)" Reno? BTW, if anyone wants it, I have a really excellent essay (by the same guy who wrote the one on Socialism) entitled "If Katherine Harris Hadn't: Fairy Tales and Infinite Loops" dealing with Ms. Harris and the 2000 election. Let me know if you'd like a copy of it. Here's an excerpt: Here, then, are the basic elements of the Storyline of Election 2000 as I have gleaned them from numerous mainstream news accounts. This Storyline is (usually) not presented overtly or even in its complete form; rather, it must be deduced and pieced together as the composite of the underlying assumptions which appear to be swimming just beneath the surface of your average "If Katherine Harris Hadn't" news story. Also, I include only those elements which leftists, and their allies in the media, appear to find important. Consequently, you will see that key characters like "The Constitution" - what it says, what it requires, how various Justices interpreted (or ignored) it - do not play any kind of role in the basic Storyline as the media and other leftists see it, for such considerations are obviously simply irrelevant to the Storyline. Which, without further ado, goes a little something like this:
1. Once upon a time there was an Election between a Mr. Gore and a Mr. Bush. On the night of the election, everyone was confused, because it was very close.
2. Since it was so close, officials realized that they had to do a Recount. A call went out across the realm of Florida: "Count them again!"
3. All of the officials and civil servants in Florida tried very, very hard to count all of the votes again. Mr. Gore flew into town and said, "All I want is for all the votes to be counted." Everyone was honest and sincere in their desire to count all the votes. Everything was just fine. There was counting goin' on!
4. After some time went by and lots of different people had counted lots of different ballots a varying number of times, but for some reason everyone was still confused, a day suddenly came when Katherine Harris, without warning, arbitrarily decided they had to stop! "This is not fair", the officials cried out. All they wanted was to do one more count! And she wouldn't let them!
5. The Florida Supreme Court heard their cries, and saved the day. "Let there be more counting", they said. The people, who just wanted all the votes counted, thought they were saved.
6. Katherine Harris had a plan, a clever plan. She would interpret the Florida Supreme Court's words too literally and stick to the deadline they made. So the Florida Supreme Court had to foil her plan, by renouncing their old deadline and making a new deadline. The count would go on! One more Recount, the one the people had been waiting for!
7. But the United States Supreme Court wanted Bush to win no matter what, because five of them are Republicans. That is the way things are. So they stopped this Recount (all the officials wanted was one more!) and that's the story of how George W. Bush came to be our 43rd President. The End. View Quote
