My wife and I flew into Reno on the way to getting married at Lake Tahoe.

We weren't impressed, we got back to Reno early before our flight home, so hit one of the casinos to have breakfast.

It seems very seedy compared to Vegas and Tahoe.

Santa Fe or Louis' Basque Corner.

My preference is for the Santa Fe, but it definitely is a little harder for the uninitiated in Basque food.

For breakfast, I really like this place:

Black Bear Diner
2323 S Virginia St
Reno, NV 89502

For lunch or dinner:

Claim Jumper
4905 S. Virginia Street
Reno, NV

If it's still around, I loved Mi Casa Too for Mexican, and actually know/knew the owner.

What happened to the Adele's in Reno? Used to be like at Virginia and California, or something.

Adeles in Reno closed down some time ago.
I went there for an office party and it was great!
It was on South Virgina just before California St.

Big +1 on Black Bear for breakfast type food

If you feel like a good steak I go to Ruby River and have always been happy

The gun shows can be hit and miss. I havent been to one since this last price retardedness so it might be interesting

If you do go to the gunshow  at the grand sierra they have a driving range on the backside that you can hit balls into their pond. Good way to kill some time.

Other than driving around in the desert I cant think of much else

Other than shooting I am a pretty boring person

Food:

Atlantis Buffet is currently THE BEST in the area.

For good Mexican, Beto's next to Saint Marys on 5th street downtown. Mi Casa Too on 4th is also good as is El Borracho on Virginia.

Mels in the Sands has the best burgers in town, unless your idea of a great burger involves 12oz of grease and wading through crowds of Oakland denizens.

For BBQ, The Oakland Style BBQ joint on Wells cannot be beat.

Local Micro Brew and food: Great Basin Brewery in Sparks, and Silver Peak in DT Reno are good spots. Both have AWESOME beer.

There are some good Sushi spots like Sushi Pier II and in the Atlantis.

India Kebab and Curry has an all you can eat Buffet for like 7.99.

We have some great food out here.

Guns/Sporting goods:

Honestly, it is OK. Bizarre Guns on Oddie is better now that it is under new management, and they have some cool toys. Silver State Arms is OK. Scheels in Sparks is a sight to behold unto itself. Cabelas is fun to visit and get a buffalo burger. Sportsmans Warehouse is in town as well. We have a place called the Gun Trader, but it is the joke around town. If they don't carry it, it is because it is "x". (insert BS claim, like "AK's Jam too much, Mini14's are more reliable.")

Outdoors here is great. Lake Tahoe, Ski Resorts, hiking, shooting, golf etc.

Hit the NV Home Town Forum and ask to meet at the snack bar at the gun show... bring ding-dongs.

You must have been drunk the whole time.

Vegas LESS seedy than Reno?

The Gun Trader in Reno is full of know-it-all pompus jerks. Stay away from there unless you want to hear him tell you how much whatever your asking for sucks and how much better the Springfield brand is and how PMC ammo is the best. (If he is a stocking dealer for it, he will tell you it is the absoulute best and how whatever brand he don't carry sucks).

First of all, may God and all his little elves protect you, I live here and it's not that great. Think New Jersey with no trees and tons of meth.
that being said:
mexican: El adobe on virgiinia street.
Italian: La Vecchia or Pierinos.
french: Beujolais on west
sushi: sushi 7 or sushi pier.
titty bar: wild orchid
skip the gun stores and hit the show. if you have to go to one, silver state or carson armory. Big thumbs up.
coffee: java jungle.

Good luck. At least the weather's decent right now.
Oh yeah, stay the hell away from the bars near UNR. Unless you want to wake up with no pants or wallet.

Just had a meal at Louis' Basque last weekend, actually. Wasn't bad at all.

I've had good breakfasts at Peg's Glorified Eggs, which is about a 10-minute walk from the city centre.

Not entirely sure where all the hot chicks hang out, but we found a few of them in the Silver Legacy.

Black Bear Diner SUCKS, do not waste your money there......

PizzaPlus has a good pizza and wings lunch buffet.

Beto's is good for authentic mexican food.

Atlantis has the best casino buffet.

There is In and Out Burgers available in Reno.

Not really any gun shops to bother with, esp Gun Trader, don't bother. There is a Cabelas, and now I believe there is Schiels (SP?) the largest sporting goods store ever.

all of Reno is like "off the Strip" in Vegas.

It's only redeeming quality is that you can be on the slopes in 45 minutes.

You know the funniest shit about this thread is that a guy asked for decient places to eat,
and someone windes up griping about Frank and The Gun Trader!
I laugh because being a long time resident from there It's pretty much spot on about how they are. I guess It's a Reno thing.

I'm gonna call up some friends and tell em about this cuz they will laugh thier asses off.
Yep, some more disatisfied customers from The Gun Trader - Go figure?
