Carly still hasn't given up the name of the person that song was about. With the clues she has given out it has been narrowed down to either Mick Jaeger or Warren Beatty.

I saw something about that the other night.  I can't remember what show or channel it was on, but she still won't say to whom it referred.

It's either Jagger, Beattie, or a couple of others whose names I can't remember right now.

I thought this thread was going to be about Jimmy Carter.

I believe she was addressing her arrogant ex-husband James Taylor.

That was one of the other names I could not remember.

They also pointed out on the show the definiton of "gavotte" and how it was Jagger that did that on stage.  It's some kind of exaggerated dance and Jagger definitely does that

She sang that song long before she hooked up with James Taylor.

The song was released the same year she married James Taylor - 1972.  She divorced him in 1983.  Warren Beatty seems to be the most popular guess.

It depends on whether or not you:

1) strategically dip your hat over one eye
2) wear apricot scarves.
3) fly Lear jets to Nova Scotia to look at solar eclipses.

The lyric that has bothered me since the 70's is from Neil Diamond's "I Am, I Said."

"And no one heard at all, not even the chair."

What, did Neil EXPECT the chair to hear him?

Did he expect the chair was going to start speaking, and say, "Whoa, Dude, I heard THAT!" - ???

(With apologies to Dave Barry, because this is actually his joke).

It was a song with small references to multiple men so they would all think it was about them.

She won and all those guys lost.  They ALL thought it was about them.  Fucking brilliant.
