Ok I carried a card for years (136).
How do you let someone tell you how to vote when you know it will hurt your pocket?
My Stepfather was a BA and Union pres. in the 60's he saw the screwing of the unions then.
How do you put up with it?

My union told me to vote for OBiden, but of course I have a brain and will vote for McPalin. They can tell me all they want, I am still the person to make the decision once I am in that booth.

For some fucked up reason, which I have no clue as to why, we parole agents are in the UMWA.

We enteredinto that union before my time so I have no clue...

Anyways, at the last union meeting, I show up because they're giving us gift cards. Some fuck from the union comes and talks to us about OBiden. I took that time to meditate quietly and not pay attention to the bullshit that fuckass was saying.

We, as an office, have discussed leaving that union for the FOP. I guess, in order to do so, we'd have to be "free agents" for 1 year. Most of the fucks are too scared to be without a union for a year.

It pisses me off that I HAVE to give them $25/month.

ETA: Post 357. I should go shoot the old revolver tomorrow.

My union is a bunch of freakin' panty waisted, pinko, tree-hugging, dirt munching druids.  I look forward to voting for McPalin.  Hell, I'd vote for McPalin even if I liked Obiden just out of spite.

UNIONS SUCK!

They took my dues and promoted socialists with them.

The day I left the union felt like walking out of jail.

I'm on a similar path right now. I'm only paying the dues so I can vote in the next election. If nothing changes(assuming I still have a job there) I am canceling my union dues. Other unions in our company are much stronger than this one, so I still have faith in it.

I heard a rumor though that they may have to delay the elections a month or two because of a massive pile up of unattended grievances. Oh, joy

The pipefitters union I am in Endorsed OBiden.  Their words were "It's a free country, vote for who you want, but the union endorses Obama"

Fair enough for me, as I really don't want to be in a union, but they pay 3 times more than the non-union trade around here, even with the dues.  At least they don't beat me over the head trying to tell me to vote OBiden.

No one is gonna tell me how to vote.

This year is interesting; our Local hasn't mailed out the normal Dem-supporting literature.  But I've been too busy to really check on their official stance.

I'd say half of the guys in the field that I've spoken with "say" they're gonna vote McCain/Palin.

We're a relatively small Local - generally we have about 700-800 members - that includes Apprentices.  We're over 1K now as we have more work than we can handle.

From the sagging economy and all...

Backstop = IBEW Local 60.

My union (IAMAW) likely supports obiden- I've never checked. My local is largely pro-McPalin. The BA has told everyone that not voting obiden would signal doom and I told him to loosen his tinfoil.

I, and I alone decide who to vote for and I am not afraid of what my choices are or who knows.

My union sends me flyers and bullshit propaganda, but no one urges me how to vote - not at work. My union coworkers are mostly conservative and we not only vote but many of us sent in redemption claims for the portion of our dues that went to political campaigns we don't support.

Seriously.

I'm GCC/IBT, btw.

Our national supports the Dem.  (APWU) American Postal Workers Union.  Our local seems to have no official position.  There is a real split on the work room floor.  No one likes either of them.  I'd say 60-70% will break for Mc.  Many of the former fire-breathing Dem's are in a tizzy.  They can't vote for Mc.  But they do not want to vote for Ob.

These be interesting times.  They are giving me an ulcer.

Mechanics Local 701 here. 13 years in. My BA tried to tell me how to vote once and only once. Maybe never asking me again has something to do with the sticker's on my tool box.........Or maybe it was my attitude.....All I care about is he know's better than to fuck with me on who to vote for. McPalin all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't here to much about political parties having to please a business because they want the votes of who works there. Long ago the nonsense where business could control the votes of their employees went out the window. Unions do not own people either. Don't need anyone acting like royalty deciding people are their peasants that have to be told how to think.

The IAFF supports whoever the most liberal, left leaning socialist that exists at the moment. The International sends out a newspaper type thing every few months and featured on the cover is whomever is the current, biggest lefty alive.

I have been very vocal in my support for anybody but the candiates the union backs. I made a number of scathing posts on this issue on our local's website forum.

FWIW: MOST of the people I talk to at work are god fearing, honest, conservatives who wouldn't dream of backing a commie. I think it is mainly a back east thing. But, of course we do have our chivatos who will vote for whoever the union tells them to vote for and talk the talk to go along with it.
I openly ridicule them at every opportunity.

The head of the IAFF went from supporting Dodd first and then to Obama.
But, most of the "thinking" rank and file members support McCain/Palin.

My local lodge does not.
About 90% of the shop are pro gun and conservative.
