Scan as in have an image scan, or scan as in optical character recognition?

I always try the latter, but if it needs to be retyped, that's what the secretaries are for.

Check your scanner/OCR mnual to see if 5X9 dot matrix printing is supported.  If not - try scanning your document with iPhoto Plus or Picture Publisher. You should set the Scan Mode to Line Art and the Resolution to 300 DPI. After scanning, zoom in on some of your text and see if it looks recognizable to you .

Leadtools and Laserfiche OCR software will recognize most standard dot matrix printing.
