Can you believe the arrogance of this guy? |
I'm pretty sure that is the set-up for a scam. The money order will likely be counterfeit. |
You might even wake up in a bath tub and missing both kidneys.
all the signs 1 poor english 2 money order 3 overpay 4 assistant/associate will pay 5 shipping company pick up and besides even if it was legit I don't end auctions or remove ads until they guy walks up to me cash in hand and the item goes away THEN the ad gets removed no waiting for 2-3 days bullshit |
i dont read arrogance, but it is painfully obvious that this is some Nigerian scammer fishing around
I wrote him that I WOULD hold the M.O. until it clears, and WOULD NOT remove the ad. I **MIGHT** put "Sold Pending Funds" on the ad. |
so, he gets the MO and takes it to the bank to get cash, if he gets it, no prob, if he doesn't then he just re-list. I don't see a scam here because there is nothing to lose. YMMV |
Are you guys joking, or naive? . The problem is the MO gets cashed but you find out a week or two later it was no good.
That's what I'm saying: I 'll hold the MO till it turns into real money. Hmmm... how long till the bank tells me this? |
I don't know how long, but I would want it in writing from the bank and not word of mouth form some branch employee. Banks have more ways to screw with your money than a socialist. |
+1 If you didn't see that this is a scam, you need to have your bullshit detector calibrated. |
Let him know you can only take a USPS or Bank issued MO. Cashier's Check would be the best.

"es I accept Money orders.United States Post Office money orders only.Cash it the PO if it's less than $5K?Just a guess,it looks like a scam to me though.
It's a scam, dude. I guarantee it. Don't even waste your time responding to him. ETA: The funds might actually clear. In which case, the bank will take their money back from YOU a few weeks down the road. Again, it's 100% scam. |
Pure scammage. The bank may cash it, but will take it back from your account a month later. Try posting another random ad on Craigslist. I bet you get the same email from the same guy, word for word. Notice how the guy doesn't mention any specifics in the email. Craigslist is full of scammers because it's easy to be anonymous. Deal only locally on Craigslist. |
The "paying extra" bit is classic as well, usually they try to get you to refund some cash money $$$$ plus your item, you get stuck with the bill and they have your shit plus cash.
PS all arguments aside, this particular email is 100% certainly a craigslist scam. |
I can't believe nobody has mentioned that the email doesn't actually say what the item is. It's a generic cut-and-paste email, they don't even bother changing the ad to say "your jeep" or "your laptop" or whatever the item is.
i've sold a bunch of stuff on craigslist and have had the exact same email and/or slight variations of it many times on each add i placed...look at the avoid scams blurb craigslist has..this one is mentioned....it's pure bullshit...
Yep....complete scam. Do a little research on the web. His email fits the profile to a T.
Tell him to have his "assistant", drive the cash over to you...and then you will release the merchandise. MO's, Cashiers Checks, etc. are all easily forged and may not be figured out to be a fake by your bank for weeks....at which point, your stuff has been picked up never to be found. |
Just send an email back saying : "I'll tell you when your payment has cleared and you can then make arrangements for pick-up".
Problem solved. |
WEEEE HAVVAAA WINNAAAAAA! |
They fuck with me... I fuck with them. BTW in case anyone doesn't know, the entire fraud is nothing new to me.
Where can I take a M.O. to have it checked for authenticity? State Police, FBI, the local Moose Lodge? |
not sure FBI or whatever will not care banks can vary widely I have seen Had a co worker get paid for a car on ebay with a cashiers check took it in the banks fraud guy said it was not legit and refused to take it and refuses to call the issuing bank and wanted to seize the check co worker raised holy hell and got the check back from them co worker was sceptical so he took it to his business account bank they said it was legit but he would have to sign documents that he was responsible for it and they could ask for the funds back for 180 days in case the CC came back fake this bank even called the issuing bank and the issuing bank said it was legit at this point he calls the guy who bought the car explains what is going on and then the buyer freaks out thinking my co worker is trying to scam him out of another check so buyer and seller call the issuing bank and asks if they show up at a branch will they give them cash they reply yes so my co worker has to drive 5 hours to a town he has never been before and gets to drive home with a backpack full of $100 bills |
your state atty generals office might be interested..... since his shippers want the money up front tell him to send th MO to the shippers...they cash it and hand you cash when they pick up the item.... |
Tell him to send your payment in gold bullion to your PO box.
The latest communication from him (Curtis, the buyer):
Curtis, you want to get "the item in my lovely wife???" It's a YAKIMA LOAD WARRIOR , you foxy devil! You are buying a luggage rack to "get in your lovely wife?" If you can get that bastard in your lovely wife, she's gotta be build like some kind of earth-moving machine! Here's my latest reply:
Funny thing is that I was recently trying to sell a piece of furniture on Craigslist and I got that response from some guy. He didn't hit me with that crap until we'd exchanged a few e-mails, though. I didn't fall for it. |
i bet that cashing counterfeit checks is illegal. imagine you get arrested, "i didn't know it was counterfeit" won't hold up in court.
Completely random hijack here, but I just want to point out that the Yakima LW is a great rack. I've got one on my Xterra and it's tough as nails, easily holds more weight than it's rated for, and doesn't make any noticeable wind noise, even on the interstate. Hijack over. |
I posted up 2 truck parts for $80 and I got one of these. How are people so dumb?
When I was young and dumber then I am now I almost fell for this exact scam on E-bay.
Luckily a banking friend of mine was able to explain it to me before they got my item and my cash. |
Oh I agree, it is tough as nails. Mine is even outfitted with an electric, remote-controlled antenna raiser! That's why I'm selling it for a premium. Did you notice a decrease in gas mileage when you used yours empty? I lost about 2 mpg or about 10%. |
This clown just doesn't give up!
Here's his latest:
And here's my reply:
He can respond to hundreds of ads per month and it costs him nothing. But if he hits just ONE sucker, he's made a day's wages! And, yes, some people ARE that dumb. I wish I could get ahold of some of Obama's supporter's addresses... |
Well, he's back. I thought this guy was finished with me after I sent him the following:
Today I received TWO replies:
I guess he just wants to do business with me sooo much, he won't give up till he gets his money out of me. This time... I think I will let the Hivemind decide how to answer him. Be sure you'fe read the ENTIRE thread to date, then submit your suggestions on how to deal with him. Note that he has my home address. Let's send him off with a bang! ETA
What is the MTCN number? |
He's still trying:
Hmmm. That sucks. I don't blame ya for wanting to get rid of it. That's actually something I was concerned about, since the shape of my Xterra is already kinda bulbous and the rack sits up high, so I paid attention to it and I couldn't tell any difference. I did remove my factory fairing when I put it up, though. I don't know if that made any difference, but since I didn't see a decrease in MPG I left the rack on. |

I am getting real sick of the idiots on craigslist. Between the trade offers and lowballs and inquiries with no followups. I have sold a few things on there but have gotton so many emails from complete jackasses. When something is for sale for $200, $50 cash in most cases will not be an acceptible offer.
I would probably just tell him it already sold to somebody for cash and just forget about the nigerian.
Or you can tell him to mail you a VISA gift card with $200 credit on it. Once you get the VISA gift card you can call the 1800# on the back and verify the ammount. or something. Tell him you need a picture of him standing infront of his house holding a sign saying "I live ARFCOM" hahahah. |
