I will be running the Marine Corps Marathon for the third time in October. The last two years, I didn't do anything for charity, and I regret it. This year, I wil be running for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, a charity that helps wounded Marines and their families with their financial needs.
If anyone would like to sponsor me on this endeavor, they can donate at: www.active.com/donate/teamsemperfi08/AWether1 I do not benefit from this in any way, other than the satisfaction of raising the money. Thanks! ETA: The first year I ran, I finished in 4 Hours, 33 Minutes. Last year, I completed it in 4 hours 3 minutes. This year, I hope to break 3 hours 50 minutes. I'm an Active Duty Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant, stationed at Cherry Point. I'd like to raise $1310, making it an even $50 per mile for the marathon. |

I'll do my best. Thanks to all for the donations so far. Please pass the address on to whoever you feel may help out with this cause.

GySgt,
I've never run the full marathon before, however, I've run the A-Standard for the national championships for the Marathon using the half marathon conversion time. I would be happy to donate some money. What I would be even more interested in doing is running this event with you to raise additional funds for the charity in question. I will unfortunately be fairly unreachable this whole summer as I leave for OCS at Quantico 28 MAY, but if you wouldn't mind I would love to run on your team. I'm sorry that I'm not able to jump on it right now, but I'm in finals week, on top of packing up to move out of my apartment at the end of the week. After 9 AUG I will be normally available again to start looking for more sponsors if everything can be setup before I leave. ETA I actually have also recently started training with a Marine who ran on the Marathon and Cross Country teams for the Marine Corps, and is a two time NAIA National Champion in the Marathon. I think if I told him I was going to run the MCM he might be interested in going as well. -Ben |

funny how a furry thread gets 3000 views in a day but this only 300.
DK if this is inappropriate ...sorry please delete it. |

If you're running those kind of times, I'm sure I'd slow you down!! I'm just an old guy who manages to keep moving in one direction for a long period of time. To register to raise money for IMSFF at the MCM, establish an account with active.com, by going to this website: http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1539922&assetId=795f0afc-c550-4201-bddb-9fb76bc9a15b Open registration for the marathon is closed. However, the marathon reserves entries for it's "charity partners", of which IMSFF is one. The more folks we have getting donations, the better!! Good luck in your endeavor at OCS. I've got a Marine who used to work for me who should be going to the same OCS class. One of the best Marines I've ever had work for me. The kid managed to get his bachelors degree while on active duty (granted, we're a non-deploying school command), took the LSAT to get into law school, got accepted, was a lifeguard at the pool, member of the squadron color guard, and did volunteer work. Absolutely awesome young man. Anyway, if you need any help with registration or logistics, let me know. This will be the third one I've ran and I've got some pointers on parking, etc. Good luck. |

It looks like I may have aimed low for my initial goal of $1310. We're still about six months out and I'm almost half way there.
Thanks to all who have stepped up to help with this cause. S/F |

How's about an update on where you stand on pledges and how short you are of your goal?
|
|
Sure thing. Keep in mind, the marathon is a LONG way off. October 26th, to be exact. I've raised $700 so far. That's actual donations, through the website, and not counting checks sent in via USPS. The original goal I had set was $1310, or $50 per mile for the marathon. I am happy to say that I GREATLY underestimated the generosity of my co-workers and the people who frequent this site. I hit $700 within five days of registering the website, and I know there's a slew of folks who intend to contribute but haven't had the time to do so yet. I will continue to update this site, and respond to any other questions anyone may have. Again, thanks to all for the awesome support. s/f, |
