9x19mm Parabellum was made by Germans yes, but not Nazi's. The cartridge was around for 20+ years before the Nazi's came to power.

Which is pretty much what it is right now... NATO standard...

Nominating obselete rounds (30-06, .45ACP) may be a tribute to the pig-headedness that created .308 Winchester....

But that's hardly something to celebrate... Although the .308 is a decent round for belt fed weapons...

And if we had had 5.56mm & the AR back then?

Sorry, but 30-06 still being issued as an individual rifle round when WWII started was the result of the Ordnance Dept plugging it's ears & screaming TRADITION! The same thing that got us those stupid en-bloc loaders for the Garand vis-a-vis a real box mag...

Not some superiority of the round itself...
