Quoted: Waiting for 308Doc to come and post some obscure bull-shit quote about the FF being dipshits I mean deists and insulting the Bible |
If you deem the philosophy many Founders followed to be "bull-shit", that is purely a reflection on you.
The Founders were educated, intelligent, innovative men who believed in liberty and tolerance.
If you find yourself in disagreement with them, perhaps you should re-evaluate the merits of your position.
A few of my favorite Paine quotes
"He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself."
"Reason obeys itself; and ignorance submits to whatever is dictated to it."
"The abilities of man must fall short on one side or the other, like too scanty a blanket when you are abed. If you pull it upon your shoulders, your feet are left bare; if you thrust it down to your feet, your shoulders are uncovered."
"Belief in a cruel God makes a cruel man."
“But there is another and greater distinction for which no truly natural or religious reason can be assigned, and that is the distinction of men into KINGS and SUBJECTS.”
“I am thus far a Quaker, that I would gladly agree with all the world to lay aside the use of arms, and settle matters by negotiation; but unless the whole will, the matter ends, and I take up my musket and thank heaven He has put it in my power.”
"For though the flame of liberty may sometimes cease to shine, the embers can never expire."
"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value."
