As far as I know, Bloomberg is a RINO -- Republican In Name Only. He's a long time liberal who switched parties to run as a Republican because he didn't want to bother with the Democratic primary.

True, but he won't be hiring all of those democrat, socialist, bureaucrats that were lined up waiting to join the Green Administration.
The plus side: See this as a defeat for Schumer, McAuliffe, the Clintons and the DNC. They all did their best to try to get Green in. The negative: Sharpton is now seen as more powerful. He will be perceived as having the power to deny any democrat city hall, without his blessing. |

1) Doubtful... Bloomberg is more of a McCain Republican than a Reagan Republican.

People need to remember that Mark Green is (was[:)]) an insufferable prick.
Most people hate(d[:)]) him. A whiner and a complainer. They will try to say that It was the endorsement, and they will say he bought the race. Green was an ass, that's why he lost. |

He suggested that his opponent's ties to Sharpton made him a bad choice for NYC. He quoted a NYTimes editorial that referred to Ferrer as, "...borderline irresponsible". Sharpton cried, "Racism!" (any criticism of a person of color is racist, after all) The black Vote still went for Green, however, the Hispanic vote went Bloomberg. |

[beer] Registered since 11/00 and only _3_ posts! Back to OT... MA has a Republican governor, and has had a repub in that office for a few years now, and the administration is just as bureaucratic and messed up as ever. The *one* accomplishment that was vaguely useful that comes to mind was reducing the income tax rate, and that was a ballot initiative. |

I think what screwed Green was his arrogant pronouncement that He would have done a better job than Guiliani in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks. When you have people across the political spectrum praising Rudy, pissing in the cornflakes like that can only be counterproductive.JMHO.

in NY the center of the political spectrum is so far left that the people to the right of this center, who call themselves republicans, are about even with the left of the rest of the country

I used to work for a guy like that, and looks surprisingly like Green. He's now retired at a young age with a heart condition. I like to call him up in the middle of the night and yell "BOO!"
