10%, no deductions for anything, you pay if you make over $30k.

(remember along with the 10% goes sales tax and state income tax is some states).

Flat tax is flat tax.
15 percent sounds about right, and usually the first 20-40K is exempt in most plans..

A flat 15%.

To be paid in addition to everything you're already paying.

If you make the first 40 exempt (and that makes a certain amount of sense, although I'd tax peole for the value of welfare recieved) you have to put a floor on it.  Otherwise people who make 41 will make less then they'd have made if they'd slacked off.

Too much and too little, but never enough.

Why would anything be exempt?

If you make 20,000, why not pay tax on it?

Probably needs to be about 18 to 20% with NO exemptions, except MAYBE interest on your home up to mortgages of $500,000. I think it is good for the .gov to encourage home ownership.

Then it would be fair and equal.

Taxing low incomes... you'll never get that through, and you'll probably pay more in welfare than you'd make in taxes from the under 30K crowd.

23.5%
That about what we all pay on income...
so it would work out just fine. ASSuME ing it is the "Fair Tax".

We should shit can income tax, and institute a National Sales Tax.

17% was estimated to cover all needed income taxes in 2001.  This was before Bush's spending binge.  That number would now need to be 30% higher, at 22-23%.  All of that increase is Bush.

I pay a lot more than that on income.  I would kill for 23.5%.

I would start paying 30+% tomorrow no problem if it was an across the board tax regardless of bracket.

assuming they can get it down to just a one time income tax and stop double fucking me on income and purchase.

I like the fair tax but I think basing it off a percent of income rather than purchase would work out better in the long run

I would be happy with either one but I dont think it will ever happen

Do you have any idea how much capital would flow back into this country if the income tax would go the way of the dodo?

We should just have a head tax.

Every person pays $2000/year.

That would be enough.
