Funny that you posted this. I was in PA two weeks ago and noticed the stars on numerous houses and barns. I never did get an straight answer what they were for. The area I was in was heavily Menonite FWIW.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Tons of people have them- not like the stuff the Amish put on their barns, but just a big 'ol tin star.
If you think its funny now, drive back the same way in a year or two, and see how many of them have marks on the siding where rusty water runs out of the stars.
