I have been getting funny looks for years because of a lot of the same observations.
Disclaimer - I am employed in the healthcare field.
Frankly, what we provide to the community is a product, nothing more, nothing less.
I really wish the hospitals worked as more of a 'cash & carry' business.
I've never felt that any person should be entitled to helth care.
Sure it would be really nice if ailing individuals had access to healthcare...but its not a right. I dont neccesarily want to see a child not recieve emergency care simply because their parents are deadbeat who dont work and carry no insurance...but the next logical question is, if they cant pay themselves...who will? You? Me?
I cringe everytime I see some medicaid case come through the ER doors because I know that my organization is going to eat the entire cost on it. Our financial leader are in a constant state of pursuit....looking for funding from anywhere we can get it...because we are constantly picking up the people that show up for services who cant pay the bill.
Did you know that an ER is legally bound to provide emergency treatment to anyone that shows up? If a bum comes through the door, states they have no job, no insurance, and no intention to pay for anything....we still have to stablize them....at our own cost. Several thousand dollars EVERY DAY is thrown away like this. Where does that money come from.....my organizations savings.
Im a decent guy....I dont want people to suffer if it can be avoided, but you know what...I didnt bring these people into the world, cause their medical issues, or place in a position where they have no way to pay for their services....so any talk about socialized medicine brings me to the same place.....I didnt cause the problem but the government is going to force me to correct it against my will.
Right to work?
Right to an education?
Ridiculous.
