Vito113's thread about Britons getting chipped got me thinking, has anyone here had their dog/cat microchipped?
<--------------- My cat Barney is microchipped. The shelter we got him from microchips all dogs and cats, it's standard procedure. |
Last year we got 2 pets from the shelter. Both were already micro chipped.

My Tomcats got a chip…
a big chip on his shoulder. He's never forgiven me for haveing his 'nads snipped off. ANdy |
Our Berner is chipped. We think it actually bothers here. She is very sensitive where the place said it was located.

I went to the vets to get my dog chipped. It was explained to me that each chip maker has its own wand to find the chip. They don't recognize other companies chips. The likely hood of a pound, vet or Chinese restaurant having all the wands is unlikely.
I had my drivers license number tattooed on his stomach instead. |
Nope. I don't have my dogs OR cats chipped. Why bother? I take care of them. They don't get out and roam the neighborhood.
All of mine are, every vet and the pound has a scanner in case one gets lost or hurt. If it's a purebred and it is stolen, the scan will show the real owner.
Pretty soon it will come standard with kids from the hospital.

beautiful cat. |

I won't be chipped... neither will my cats. Of course they're indoor cats...

My wifes dog is chipped.
My cat is not. He has 'gone dark' and is totally beyond the reach of 'the system'. |
My Dog followed my Son home in 1998. After about 4 weeks of trying to find his owner, we took him to the Vet. As I held my breath (hoping there was no chip as I had already become attached to him) my Vet scanned him. NO CHIP! Before my Husband and I left his office MY dog Moses was chipped, with our name and address. I guess we found his rightfull owners!

Bailey Beagle is chipped, and has a tag on her collar stating so (not that she would ever run-away, she is spooked if me or the Mrs. is ever out-of-sight)
Say who? Our cats are chiped. |
ditto. Our Golden Retriever is chipped. |
I prefer my pork chipped.
I'm thinking about having a chip put in my GSD but haven't done it yet. |
The thing about chipping is that there are still various brands of scanners, but I do chip and tattoo my dog.
The tattoo is nice, but there have been people evil enough to scar a dog over their tattoo to prevent it from being read and keep the dog. That chip gives you some insurance and they aren't very expensive to get. I got my dog's chip for about $65.00 and his tattoo for about $35.00. |
I need to get my Box chipped.
It's a good idea and if your dog competes in dogsports like Schutzhund or French Ring they require chipping or tatooing. Chipping does not require anesthesia and is less risky. If the dog is going under than I would tatoo but if there is no planned surgery than I would chip. |

Our hunting dog was chipped by the rescue society we got her from. She ranges wide in the woods even if you have the collar dialed to 10. Have lost her overnight while hunting twice, so yeah...I think it's a good thing for animals. Am not in favor of seeing man-imals chipped.
When we got ours it was already in her along w/all the other bullshit they give you. I'd say it's probably more of a gimmick. You end up with a final cost of like $1500 for a dog. Ridiculous. |
No. She cant get out of my yard and if she is out, she is on a chain. I would have my kids chipped though.
My two cats got chipped last month when they got snipped and fixed.
Just sent the registration info in today, in fact... |
Has nothing to do with the chip. You can buy and sell all day long with a chip. Also its Revelation not RevelationS. |

My 2 dogs are but my wife's 2 cats are not(who cares if they get lost).
My Bulldogs are chipped and some of the wife dogs are. One thing about chips. not all chips can be read with the same reader. Found that out the hard way some years ago. See what your vet has and what animal control uses.....

Dog and one of three cats. You have a Husky with no chip and you're likely never to see him again if he gets loose.
I see that most have their pet chipped, all 3 of mine are.
But if you have moved or got a new phone number, have you updated the information with the Vet / Shelter that did the chipping. And also with the database company? The chip is no good, if the owner's information is old and out of date. I pick up alot of animals with chips. But sad to say some can not be returned, as the owner moved and did not update their information I also carry a Avid scanner in my work unit. |
Promoted by the local humane society/rescue shelters... The more dogs that get chpped, the less they have to put down... While there are multiple systems, if you get the one your local pound uses, you should be fine... After all, a dog only ranges so far... |

My MUTT is Chipped, found a little West Highland Terrier the other day in the Park, wasnt Chipped no Collar who does he belong to!?!,went away with the Dog Warden, lovely little chap he was too.
Dog is chipped.
Even if the shelter doesn't have your "brand" of chip, doesn't it alert to the fact a chip of some kind is there anyway? Hopefully they try to locate the proper reader. |
So how deep do you have to bury a chipped cat so he does not read?
