I am asking this question with risk of sounding like a militant, government overthrowing, commy punk, but I though it might make for an interesting topic.  Oh, for the ATF/FBI/CIA/NSA agent who reads this, trust me I don't wanna start anything am just asking a question.  

So, here goes.  If the fit hit the shan today, would you be ready?  I'm talkin about a complete breakdown of society as we know it: looting, no police control, basic mayhem.  If/when this day comes, would you be ready for it?  Do you have the guns,ammo,gear,resources,know-how to survive?  When it happens, most if not all law enforcement personnel will head home to defend their families.  People will be allowed to do whatever they want.  You must protect yourself and your family.  Who knows what will happen, all you can do is prepare to the best of your abilities.  How will it happen?   No one can answer that.  Your best bet will be to group with the few people who have prepared for such a day and form your own personal army.  What will happen?  Will you live through it?  

I think about this alot and I'm sure alot of you do too.

Haven't read any of the books on the subject, need suggestions on good ones.

I not as ready as I would like to be. I still have some "stuff" I want to get first. I let yall know when I'm ready before you let the SHTF[:D]

I'm totally unprepared. I went to a gun show today and didn't buy ANY beef jerky!

I will tell you this. Those who spend time and money hoarding guns are not prepared for shit.  It takes routine practice of shooting sports to be proficient at it.

The downside of this is I shoot so much I can't make/buy new ammo fast enough.  

I could hold off an entire town full of typical looters but would run out if a urban military assault was going on.

I got a shovel and a couple rolls of toilet paper.  That's about it.[;D]

I've got a 75'x 125' lot to cover!!!...Ta hell with 5.56 nato, I'm stockin up with 12 ga. 00 Buck from now on.

Defense wise. Yes
Surviving. Not really, I'm not physically in shape to handle the constant stress of a SHTF scenario as describe. I've always lived in an urban area and that will be my comfort zone. So if I had to bug out, my survivability would be even more handicapped.
Supply wise. Maybe for about 2wks.

I am more prepared than most of the urbanites around me that's for sure. However compared to some others I am not as prepared. But then again who is totally prepared.

Unprepared urbanites are a great source of vitamin B and Iron [}:D]

I do have a place to go to should it happen, but since I don't have an off road vehicle with a diesel engine it would take me a couple of days to get there walking.

Another thing... I need a few more years to build up the 'adult video' collection to last me thru a 'SHTF' scenario. Because, as you know, pornography will be the new currency when society breaks down.

WOOOOHOOOOO, I'm rich. I got a shitload. Name your format I've got it. Magazines, DVD's, VHS, jpg, mpeg, DIVX, etc.

I got dibs on being your VP.

That scenario is the least likely threat we face.  But if it did happen, survival would depend on luck and fate, as much as preparation.  I figure I have equal amounts of each. Plus++++++++I can run real fast, like 8 miles a minute.

Far better to have 100 rounds of ammo and 900 rounds of practice than to have 1000 rounds of ammo and no practice.

In my yard today I saw 2 deer and 6 wild turkeys.I have a pond full of fish less than 50yds behind my house.I have enough pinto beans,rice,corn meal and canned goods to last at least a couple of years.I'm about to lease a few hundred acres to a rancher that will keep at least 100 head of Angus on it.I have about 10 of those giant packages of TP from Sam's.I have a ton of medical supplies.I have 500gallons of diesel fuel and about 300 gallons of gasoline I have two cases of bourbon and a single case of wine.I have flour,yeast,powdered milk,bisquick and all sorts of odds and ends to eat.I have my entire yard near the house converted into a tactical target range with steel posts as targets placed from 25-250M.I suit up and go full tilt every time my wife and child go into town to do errands.I just love opening the windows and running around my house shooting out the windows(gotta turn on the attic fan to suck out all the smoke though).I have a huge library of books as well as a growing collection of DVDs that could provide enteratinment once or twice per week when we splurged and ran the generator an hour or two.I have water filtration via my katadyn combi and pocket filters.I have two horses I can use for transportation(or food:() and my property backs right up onto the lake about 300yds away beyond the trees.I have the skills and knowhow to fix everything around here and I totally agree that every 800 rounds shot for practice and 200 left for fighting beats the hell out of 1000 rounds and no practice at all.I do keep a case or two on hand all the time though.I never gave it much thought really,I just buy stuff in bulk anyway and I'm pretty resourceful.I guess I'd do alright except for my displeasure at the internet going away.I kinda like all these neat websites I can go and read interesting stuff on(like this post)subjects that really interest me.

My line of thinking is not rally the same as most.

I would stay no more than 20 mils. from a city if we when commie or WW3,Y3K or what the hell ever.

Think about it, you really can't pack up ever thing you will ever need to live the rest of your life(you don't even know what all will go down)so you need to be some place that will be getting new stuff(med.sup,food,ammo,ect)
Cars and most trucks may not be any good to you and you will need to be able to get what you need and get it home.

If you live outside a city just learn when what ever you need comes in and sneek in and get some.
