... It seems to be so en vogue and prevalent on ARFCOM & Democratic Underground these days.

  • Immigration issue

  • Ammo shortages

  • Iraqi conflict

  • Political misrepresentation

  • Iran looming on the horizon

  • Gas prices

  • Pandemics

  • Economic jitters

  • ... I should be miserable - but I'm not.

... My sky is not falling and it's still blue.

... Can't figure out whether or not I'm just a happy-idiot, living a sheltered life or I just don't let life's curve-balls mess with me. Every generation has had it's woes, ups & downs.

... Sure, things could be better, but many of those things I simply have no control over, so i just conduct my life, loves and finances the best way I can.

Anyones else OK with their life?

Oddly enough, issues like what you've mentioned, the 'Big Picture' stuff, doesn't really have an effect on my overall happiness.  Another war?  Sucks for the world at large, but oh well.  Illegals taking over?  They'll get theirs.  But if I get bogged down with schoolwork (like now, which I should be concentrating on)...MOTHER FUCKER!  The stuff that has no real effect on the world at large is what gets me down.

Life IS good.  I'll always try to believe that.

30-40K more a year would really help, though...

Mon, If I spent even three seconds on DU I'd be more depressed, deflated and disgusted than I could ever imagine.

Am I happy in life now? Sure, life is good - very good.

Am I optimistic - no fucking way.

If I had no vested interest in the future (like my son for example), I wouldn't give a shit about the future and so I'd be the grinnin'est, happiest, most care-free whistling skipper on the street.

But what the future holds for my son is what drives me to care deeply about the fact that this great big happy bus we call America is heading full speed towards some very dangerous curves.

Just because I am unhappy about certian events that are happening around our nation, does not mean that I let those degrade my quality of life, or how I feel on a daily basis.  For me to let them live in my head rent free would be like giving them a handout....I'm just not going to freely give that kind of time to them.

I'm good.  If the US implodes, I'll go somewhere that hasn't.  I've already left one country when it went down the toilet.  External threats are one thing, but when it implodes from within, it is time to leave.  Not that this will ever happen to the U.S. in my lifetime.

I only really get down in the dumps for petty, minor stuff.  The world events and political stuff I can usually ignore safely.  Although it is really starting to annoy me in some ways...gas prices, etc.

Seems to me that the 60's is an iconic era regarding extreme polarization right here at home - war/peace, white/black, clean/doper, etc. etc.  Of course I'm 60 now so I'm entering my "those were the days" era myself .

But honestly, few of the things on that list are worth getting worked up over:

    #  Immigration issue

I've made my voice heard as much as I can.  No point in getting worked up over something when I've done what I can.

    # Ammo shortages

Eh.  Prices on everything fluctuate.  If they get high enough, more manufacturers wil lramp up or step in to get the market.  I've got a couple of cases of the british stuff to cover the lean times.

    # Iraqi conflict
    # Political misrepresentation
    # Iran looming on the horizon

    See #1

    # Gas prices

Good, I need more excuses to motorcycle (or even better, bicycle) my fat ass to work more often. =)

    # Pandemics

Why worry about something you can't affect or predict?

    # Economic jitters

There have been economic jitters for as long as there has been economics.  Plan/Prepare well and you'll be OK.

This is funny, because I actually do this: When I'm having a bad day, I think "At least nobody shot an RPG at me..." and my day is automatically better.

(seeing those RPG vids here on Arfcom has changed my perspective quite a bit)

FWIW I have a new niece and I have to say that a baby's smile can brighten the darkest day.

Nope, life's good. My ammo supply is getting stocked up nicely, all my guns work fine, the wife is back into a frisky mood, the rug rat is doin great, and I just got written up for Deputy of the month and a life saving award!

My budget took a hit this month but nothing overly bad.
