You have $15,000 to spend. Which do you buy?

Full auto M16 or other FA

or

Barrett M82A1 with a lot of accessories and ammo?

M-16

You need a poll.

Where can you get an M16 for a measly $15,000?

Of course, in the ideal situation, it'd be "$15,000 for an M16? What are you, nuts? I could buy five for that much, with ammo and mags!"

IBTP.

My guess is neither: A basement full of ammo stash to last a couple generations and 20 hurricanes or more and a Iran or another

FA all the way.

I'd take the Barrett. Only $15,000?

ETA:  The XM109 to be exact. What can you do with FA that you cant do with one well placed 25mm round?

AC556 and a Barrett

I could have a lot of fun with a registered M16 lower. If I ever enter the world of full-auto, that's what I'd get.

15k would be able to buy me 2 moderate 50BMG rifles, great scopes like Nightforce 5.5-22x, PLUS a shitload of ammo for them which is only going to become more difficult to come by in coming years.

I'd go the 50s route for sure.    Already have a 50BMG and which I could have gotten another one before Ca. banned the sales, now I'm considering a 510DTC build.

Look around, MKX.

$13,200

Me? I'd take the M16 over a .50.

If you were on the ground in Iraq, what would worry you more: Iran providing every insurgent a Barrett or an M-16?

When an insurgent steps into the open with his AK in Iraq he is blown in half by a Barrett he can't even see.

The Barrett is a truly awesome piece of weaponry for an individual.

I can't vouch for the following but it was very interesting to me [posted here a while back, something like "Lessons from Iraq"]:

1) The M-16 rifle : Thumbs down. Chronic jamming problems with the talcum
powder like sand over there. The sand is everywhere. Jordan says you feel
filthy 2 minutes after coming out of the shower. The M-4 carbine version is
more popular because it's lighter and shorter, but it has jamming problems
also. They like the ability to mount the various optical gunsights and
weapons lights on the picattiny rails, but the weapon itself is not great in
a desert environment. They all hate the 5.56mm (.223) round. Poor
penetration on the cinderblock structure common over there and even torso
hits cant be reliably counted on to put the enemy down. Fun fact: Random
autopsies on dead insurgents shows a high level of opiate use.

9) The Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle: Thumbs way up. Spectacular range and
accuracy and hits like a freight train. Used frequently to take out vehicle
suicide bombers ( we actually stop a lot of them) and barricaded enemy.
Definitely here to stay.

I'm not going to pay fucking 15,000 dollars for something that should cost, AT MOST, 1,500 dollars.
I'm also not going to buy a rifle whose potential I could never truely make use of.
I'd get neither.

I'd buy myself some nice pre-1964 weapons, maybe a Winchetser Model 70, a S&W Model 29, and a nice custom 1911 built off a Colt 70 Series Gold Cup.
The rest I would spend on ammo and a reloading set up.
