One dead, one wounded when motorist opens fire on Hell's Angels
By Matt Apuzzo, Associated Press Writer | April 2, 2006 WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- One Hell's Angels motorcyclist was killed and another was injured Sunday when someone in a vehicle opened fire on them on Interstate 95, police said. Roger Mariani, 61, of Stratford, was killed in the shooting, state police said. Mariani was affiliated with the Bridgeport chapter of the motorcycle club, said Connecticut State Police spokesman Sgt. J. Paul Vance. The person or people responsible for the shootings were still being sought Sunday night. Mariani was among a group of bikers who were riding southbound on the highway near Exit 42 in West Haven when the shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m., police said. He pulled over on the highway's shoulder before realizing he had been shot in the upper torso, Vance said. Police across the northeast were alerted to look for a green GMC sport-utility vehicle with Florida plates, and Vance said police believe four men were in the vehicle. Police were considering a number of possible motives including road rage, and were investigating whether an altercation occurred between the motorcyclists and the SUV operator shortly before the shooting, Vance said. Specialists in gang activity also were called in to review the case. Vance said police were looking for witnesses, and he urged anyone who witnessed the shooting or anything suspicious in the area Sunday to call police. Mariani and Paul Carrol, 37, of Bridgeport were taken after the shooting to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Carrol had been grazed by a bullet, and was treated at the hospital and released, Vance said. Mariani was a loan officer at a mortgage company in Naugatuck, according to a report on WTNH-TV. Members of the motorcycle club gathered at Yale-New Haven Hospital Sunday night, prompting New Haven police to station officers there to keep order. Police spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester said that no incidents were reported at the hospital Sunday night. The Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club is active in Connecticut with at least two chapters, the Nomads in Bridgeport and a Hartford-based group, according to its Web site. The investigation snarled highway traffic for hours, bringing cars to a standstill on I-95 and the southbound side of I-91. --- On the Web: http://www.hellsangelsct.com www.boston.com/news/local/connecticut/articles/2006/04/02/one_dead_another_injured_when_driver_opens_fire_on_hells_angels/ |

I really could give half a shit about a motorcycle gang that lost a member.
On the other hand, i'm not justifying the shot taken by the shooter. "EH..." I say. |
We won't. It'll happen, but we won't hear about it... Except, possibly, in court testimony in 5 years. |
Wasn't it in Finland or the Netherlands about 10-15 years ago that these yahoos were firing off RPG's at eachother?
The Angels and Pagans have been having an on going turf battle in Philly for years.
Musta been 9mm. |
Not to push the dead guy to the side, but snarling traffic as rush hour approaches on 95 in West Haven must have pissed a LOT of people off.
Hell, I hate that drive when it isn't rush hour... nevertheless after a shooting. - BG |

These motorcycle gangs are not what they used to be,but i cant speak for this situation. |
It was in Sweden, and I believe that one gang fired at the cell where a member of a rival biker gang was inprisioned. |
Guess you might of forgot about the little riot the HA's and
another club had in Vegas couple yrs back..They'll find the ones who did this some day and it won't be pretty. Won't hear about it but it'll get done. |
A 61 year-old loan officer. Just the type of menace to society we all envision as a Hell's Angel. |
Loan officer? I always had the impression these guys were barely fit for civilization...eh learn something new
The shooter is screwed- if he gets arrested and goes to prison -screwed.If the police dont catch him before the hell Angels do -screwed.

My home town sits on US Highway 83. It runs from Brouwnsville, Texas way up to dead end in the Canadian tundra. It's one of the county's major north/south highways. Thus I've met my share of HAs through the years on their way to Sturgis. It was not at all uncommon to talk to bankers, real estate agents, lawyers, etc., etc. who rode with the HAs. And this was during the early '80's. They have turned more into a motorcycle club. Except for the 1%'s. They're the outlaw gang element, although I'm sure there's still plenty of 1% wannabe's in the regular gang. Personally, I wouldn't wear their colors. Not with the history the gang has. You associate with scum, you'll be viewed as scum. And despite the number of "ruputable" people they've attracted in the past several years I still view the HAs as scum. |

My in-laws go to Sturgis but he's retired leo and she does flowers for weddings & farmer's market. I guess I had the impression HA was completely hardcore.. |

Im surprised this doesnt happen more often, I hate straight pipes too.
So, lowd pipes might have cost a life? Heresy. |

I thought EVERYBODY knew that many of these guys have "normal" jobs as cover? Many of them own businesses too, but in the end, it is all a ruse and to further their the end goal. It helps to cover their drug, bike theft, shakedown, and prostitution activities. Geeeez, I thought everyone knew that???? And yes, you must commit felonies as part of proving yourself through the initiation procedure! It's called "earning your patch"!!! Until then, you have not earned the right to wear the HA patch. You can wear the colors, but not the main patch that is so famous. |

Seems these guys weren't real scared of the big bad HA's. If you are blowing them away on the interstate your are not overly concerned with their "reputation". I thought all HA's where 1%, there for criminal?
Yeah were looking real hard |
Must have been a 9mm. |
Sounds more like a bunch of cowards in a SUV to me. If they weren't scared of the HA's, they would've faced them like men, not like bitches shooting from a moving vehicle. |
The Hells Angels is a criminal street gang that exist only to increase the profits of the gang. They have to have some legit members to launder the money from the pimping, drug dealing, insurance scams, bike thefts, blackmail and extorsion scams. |

You sound like to admire the Angels? As far as I'm concerned, one less Angel is a good thing, no matter how it happened. |
You don't have to admire somebody to show respect. Shooting somebody from a moving car is a cowardly act, regardless who your shooting at.
Maybe we could convince them it was the bloods or the crips- or better yet MS13 and let them have at it.
From what I have read and seen when has a gang ever gone toe to toe with anyone, more like 4 or 5 on one, hince the definition of GANG.
Why would anyone respect a bunch of Meth dealing thiefs? |
I dont think the HA have ever been interested in a fair fight. HA never let a brother fight alone unless its with another member right ? |
