Hometown folks fret over Attalla teen's centerfold
Friday, March 31, 2006 CAROL ROBINSON News staff writer GADSDEN It's a long way from Gadsden to Hugh Hefner's Hollywood mansion, but Holley Ann Dorrough got there, even with two left shoes. But the fallout from her April spread in Playboy has been tough, especially for her Southern Baptist parents. They cried for two months when she told them she was taking it all off. "I made up my mind that I raised her right. She was taught right from wrong," said her mother, Lisa Dorrough. "She knew we didn't approve of what she was doing, but she's the one that's going to have to answer to the Lord for what she's done, not me." The 19-year-old Etowah High School graduate from nearby Attalla has gone from hospital candy-striper and Sonic waitress to Miss April as one of seven centerfold playmates from Alabama in the past 30 years. Dorrough will sign autographs from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Oak Hill Bar and Grill in Homewood. The bar is owned by Gadsden native J.D. Hill III. She certainly made an entrance when she strolled into Gadsden's Uncle Sam's barbecue this week on long, tan legs in a minuscule skirt and cowboy boots. She glittered in the trademark Playboy bunny necklace, bunny ring and an enormous bunny belt buckle. She explained how she found her way into the magazine and the mansion. Dorrough said she'd never posed nude before, and won't again unless it's for Playboy. "The part that bothered me was the fact that everybody else was going to see it, as far as my family and close friends and people I used to go to church with," she said. Difficult for dad: Her father, Allen Dorrough, who works in a welding and fabrication shop, took it the hardest. "He didn't say too much for several months," Lisa Dorrough said. "He kind of withdrew, but he's accepted it now." He waited until the April issue was close to hitting newsstands before telling his co-workers. "He knew that if the issue came out and they said something about it to him, he would have knocked them out because my dad's pretty protective of me," Dorrough said. "He told them not to say anything unless it was nice, not rude." The Gadsden Times featured her in a front-page article. There was a flurry of letters sent to the newspaper. A Southside High School librarian wrote that her students were disgusted. A Gadsden mother wrote that she didn't want her child to think that being seen naked nationwide should fit anyone's definition of success. One of Dorrough's former Etowah High teachers also wrote, asking her to never mention again where she went to high school. Lisa Dorrough wrote her own letter to the newspaper. She said the parents, who still live in Attalla, are not ashamed of their daughter, and love her very much. "While Holley attended church, she did hear the Word of God taught and preached," Lisa Dorrough wrote. "Holley has not been an active member for the last two to four years. I hope that people have prayed for her as much as they have talked. Ye without sin, cast the first stone." As for Dorrough's route to Playboy, "come 10th grade, I knew I wanted to start modeling and I was ready to get out of here," Dorrough said. "I didn't care about being prom queen, or being cheerleader or the most popular person. "At graduation everybody was crying, and I was, like, `See ya.'" On the Internet: It was the photographer who took her senior yearbook portrait who got her on her way. He took some shots, free of charge, put them on the Internet, and she got immediate response. Dorrough spent 18 months on photo shoots but for no pay. Then, at a Miami shoot, a photographer asked her if she'd be interested in testing for Playboy. She ignored his e-mails, but a month later, she went to a modeling workshop in Georgia and met photographer Rolando Gomez. He showed her work he'd done for Playboy, and asked her if she was interested. "I was like, `I don't know, I could probably be talked into it,'" she said. She flew to Texas to stay with Gomez, his wife and three children. He took pictures to use on the cover of his book, "Garage Glamour," set to be released next week, and sent those shots to Playboy. Gomez's photo assistant, a former playmate who was Miss December 2002, got Dorrough an invitation to Hefner's annual Midnight Summer Dream party in July. Dorrough flew alone to Hollywood and bought a pink babydoll nightie and a pair of pink shoes that she didn't bother trying on before she left the store. The box held two left shoes. "That's the only shoes I had with me except flip-flops, and I wasn't going to wear flip-flops," she said. `Hi' to Hef: Dorrough arrived by cab at the mansion and walked into a world much different from Gadsden. She met Dustin Hoffman, Sly Stallone and a host of other celebrities. She was standing at the mansion's main entrance when Hefner and his three girlfriends walked in. He walked past her, stopped, turned around, smiled and walked back to introduce himself. "I said, `Hi, I'm Holley and I'm your next playmate,'" she said. "He said, `You're not already?' and I said, `No, I tested two weeks ago in Florida so my pictures should be in your office. Heads up.'" That was a Saturday night. On Monday, Hefner's secretary called and said, "Hef was tickled pink by you and would love for you to fly back out here and shoot your centerfold." She signed a two-year, $25,000 contract with Playboy, and makes an additional $750 to $1,000 per public appearance. Dorrough said her goals are to be a successful model and singer, and later a wife and mother. "I just don't want people to think I'm a bad person for doing it, because I mean, like, I'm a nice girl," she said. "I have a good heart and I'm really sweet; it was just one of those career choices." Damn the hometown folks are coming down pretty hard on her. |

I've stopped by that Sonic. I must have been more interested in the burgers than the pie. Guess I'll have to find a copy and see if I remember her.
She certainly has the brain for nude modeling. |
Speaking of Playboy, the wife was talking to a friend of her's who's daughter was a cheerleader at USC. The cheerleaders were required to get a "Playboy", a full mowing of their nether regions.
I'm looking at issue right now. Blonde, 34.25.34, 115lbs, 5'8".
She is good looking. |
there are pics all over the net.
Google her. Nothing to stop traffic. Not saying I wouldn't hit, either. |
They actually REQUIRED it? Man, that is a bit much, requiring the chickies to completely shave their muffs.... Too bad...a girl without at least SOME muff is like pie without whipped cream! |
I'm sure her parents are real proud. If I were her father, I might not ever speak to her again, nor let her in the house.
She might as well have killed herself. Or them. |
What I want to know is why are all these school officials, moms, and religious people reading Playboy in the first place? They are all complaining about her being naked and setting a bad example...so I guess in addition to reading it themselves they are showing Playboy to their children too.
I hate it when people make stupid arguments. Then town gave her more publicity and attention which is what kids strive to get, so by their own actions they have made her more of a role model than anything. |
Damn dude... it's Playboy, not schizer porn. It's not the smartest thing she could have done, but it's certainly not the worst. She could have hooked up with a meth head, fucked herself all up, started whoring herself out, and dumped a couple babies in a trash can. |
worthless without pic's
now i have to use my amagination damnit! atleast give us a link so we can all PEEK |
Interesting. If I were her father, I would be wondering where I had failed... |
Google Images is your friend. |
Well, that might be a bit extreme. I certianly would not be proud of her, but I also would not kick her to the curb and never speak to her again. Probably goes back to that "throwing the first stone" thing. She is obviously grown up enough to make her own decisions, so I probably wouldn't let her move back into the house, but remove her from my life? No way. |
I just googled her name and found the good stuff.
Not bad...i'd hit it |
So much for this thread going without a lock.
Quarterbore, please take those pics down before this thread is locked. |
Playboy has helped launch many womens career's. Many. |

I just feel bad for the non-team guys who are asking for pics. You know that with pics, this turns into a BOTD post and gets move to the team-only section right?? LOL
I got rid of the one with the ripped jeans but this is hardly BOTD material... Hell, mve it to the team forum... then we can add real pics... more people should support this site anyways! This is from the Code:
Those pics are not in that category... the one I deleted might have been close... |
Personally, I would just let her do her own thing. If you shut her out, she will just carry on her own life without you. Take a look at the ages some of the USA soldiers killed in OIF/OEF, many of them are not much older. |
Well, it can be a fully clothed pic.... I know about the team thing...one of these days when I have a spare $25 or whatever it is, I'll jump on too.... |
Cool! Yeah, I don't care if BOTD is team-only or not, but it's kind of funny. It's asking for something, you know will get this thread moved to where you can't see what you're asking for.....doh!! |

Wow. Just goes to show the power of Playboy. 25K over 2 years is all they pay to the highest pinnacle of nude modeling.
I'd love to find out what she'd doing in 5 years... |
Are you kidding me? You do know that you don't have to be an arfcom team member to find porn on the internet, don't you? Anyone with a half a brain, a computer and an internet connection can find not only the full playboy spread online, but even more pics of her besides that. |
She wears flip flpos on a plane. That's classy. |
Everyone takes their clothes off every day. She just figured out a way to get paid for it.
BTW: I think her Playboy salary is a baseline that has very little to do with what she makes. She'll get some sort of commission for showing up at car shows and such. |
Cause I am sure you clicked on this thread for the articles, huh. |
Who's to say the parents "failed"? Perhaps they raised her well and thoughfully. She just made her own choice. She's a legal adult. I sure as hell wouldn't like it either if my kid did that but I think it'd be a lot better to get over it and forgive the kid than to "never speak to her again" or spend the rest of your days wallowing in misery at how you failed her. |

One of these day's somebody is going to off that dirty old man.
I always thought "honor your father and mother" was just as good either as a God given commandment or simple life philosophy.
Naked women in Playboy is bad but if they're in National Geographic it's just fine? I love hypocrites.
Brian |
You do understand that the PURPOSE of Playboy is to sell magazines of sexy young women in provocative poses for men to masturbate to, and the PURPOSE of National Geographic is to show pictures of exotic locales and cultures that might occasionally happen to show a picture of some ugly old hags sagging boobs, right? How is that hypocracy? Medical journals may also occasionally show nude bodies. Is that just like Playboy too? |
Beat me to it. "Hipocrate"; another loaded term used by those who can't make a good argument for their position.
Although I haven't even seen a Playboy since I was 13 or so, I'd have to support this chick for posing.
She isn't going to college and the magazine throws 6 digits at her.... that would be a no brainer. Hell, I'm IN college and I'd show my nasty, pudgy ass for We can all jump up on our high horses but most of us don't know how to ride em. She isn't a prostitute and she isn't doing some crazy fetish crap. Poor girl got some pics taken and can afford to do a variety of things: Go to college Open a small business Get a house - BG |

Are you serious??? I suppose she is going to burn in hell for posing nude too, right? And if you were her father and you considered what she did as being so wrong that she should commit suicide then like the man said, maybe you should ask yourself where you went wrong. I can't believe that you equate posing in Playboy to suicide or the murder of your parents... wow... |
