Yesterday I happened to catch a glance at the front page, above the page color photo of the New York Times. It was of a couple of moderately dark skinned fellows smashing things in front of a burning building with a sort of pagoda style tiled roof. The roof line looked familiar so I read the caption and found that Kurds in Halabja --the town near the Iranian border that Saddam Hussein nerve gassed in 1988-- rioted and burned down the memorial to the atrocity yesterday.

This is not as good a picture as the one on the front of the NYT, but this is from further back:

When I was in Iraq we took our protectee to Halabja to note the discovery of a further 300 bodies (skeletons) in a mass grave. They were found when a new road was being put in. After visiting the grave site, we all went to to the memorial. It was pretty moving and left no doubt as to what happened to those people.

Losers, but we have to stay the course like we did in the Phillipines at the turn of the century, like we did in Germany and Japan, you remember the atrocities in the death camps and the sneak attack at Pearl Harbor, the collateral damage in the Battle of Britain, all 3 countries are our biggest allies now.

this just goes to prove that those people don't appreciate shit. They want a "Muslim nation" but all they do is kill other muslims. Doesnt make any sense.

Germany, Japan and other countries we have rebuilt after wars are different. They weren't/aren't crippled by self destructive cultures based on hatred and intolerance. It is perfectly clear that a large percentage of muslims are perfectly content to live in the dark ages.

There have been a lot of allegations of fraud lately within the two main Kurdish parties, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party. The demonstrations were over money coming into the PUK from foreign aid but never making it beyond the pockets of the party bigwigs. Guards/police/pesh merga at the memorial fired over the heads of the protestors and in response they charged the place and started smashing things. A can of some petroleum distillate was dumped and ignited. That's all she wrote.

whatever it takes to have peace if strict law and order is required and people have to be spanked and punished then so be it. you can't have peace with out law and order. It took 4 years to get the military governor replaced in Germany almost 1949, it is gonna take time.

we are doing the right thing in Iraq and Afghani. even if it hurts and the opinion polls show it as unfavorable.

That's the funniest thing I've seen in a while, almost spewed beer onto my laptop. Of course being a bit buzzed could make it seem funnier, but I don't think so. Definately sig worthy.
