A fugitive wanted in Nassau County was shot Monday during a confrontation with three bounty hunters at a used car lot in northwest Jacksonville, police told WJXT-TV.
"Bounty hunters actually came up and went to arrest the guy who was here detailing a car," Mike Googins of Padgett Auto Sales said. "They actually told him to raise his hands, he raised his hands, they shot one in the ground, they told him to get on the ground and they shot him in the stomach."
The victim was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center with what officers described as a life-threatening gunshot wound to the stomach, WJXT-TV reported.
Officers at the scene in the 10500 block of New Kings Road were investigating the shooting.
Jacksonville police said the man who was shot was wanted for failure to appear and possession of cocaine charges in Nassau County.
The three bounty hunters, who are out of Nassau County, and a witness were taken to the Police Memorial Building for questioning. It was not known if they would face any charges.
