My 13 yr old son bought this Snow Speeder model and I ended up building it with him looking on. Boy that really brought back some childhood memories. My room as a kid was full of model aircraft, with my favorite being helicopters. I even won 1st place in a few contests way back when.
Since the Snow Speeder my son has built a few models him self and has done a good job picking up on building tips from his old man. At least the model building gets him away from the Play Station and into something that builds some talent and skill!

Very nice.
Many people look down on model building, but it requires more patience and attention to detail than a lot of other "hobbies". I spend four months making my M2 Bradley and six months on my A-10. I did my best not to rush or cut corners and I was very proud of the results. Your son should be, too. Congrats. |

Thanks. Nope never worked for ILM. I went from working on model aircraft to working on the real ones! ILM probably pays more!!! |

Excellent work!
 Used to build all the time as a kid but haven't done any since the 80's. Mostly aircraft, sci-fi and a few ships and subs. I have 3 Star Trek ship models that I bought nearly 10 years ago that are currently out of production kits. Might make them a summer project. |

When I was a yout you couldn't put a shirt on in my room without banging an arm into a hanging aircraft model. The bad part was that I amassed my collection while living in a coverted old school house with 12' ceilings (I had 3D diaramas with dog fights and tracers painted on monofiliment) and then moved into a small tract house with 7.5' ceilings.

What did you use to make the "blaster streaks"?
I've used the crushed up core of model rocket engines to make battle damage on model tanks. Just poor a little on the spot,light with match and Viola!, instant battle damage. Works very well... |

I used to build model cars, mostly drag cars ,also built balsa wood airplanes, biplanes and some ww2 fighters. Does take skill and talent to make to make excellent displays.

Hey, I had the chicks as a young man! Just look at this sexy fella!  That's me in 1981, at my first model contest. I built the B-25 specifically for the contest, spent weeks on it. The B-25 kit's decals were bad so I bought the Hellcat model of the same scale strictly to use the decals. Built the Hellcat the night before the contest, the Hellcat takes 1st place, the B-25 takes 2nd!

I just got done putting together a Star Destroyer model as well as an A10 Warthog
 . Its taking longer than I thought to get the Star Destroyer painted nicely.

I was never any good at it like my dad used to be but I loved to build model kits when I was a kid. I still have a few unbuilt ones come to think of it.
VERY nice work QUIB... Some of my coolest memories from being a kid was building models with my dad. |

as a kid i always buit the old war plane models. nothing like old prop planes that speak out about the history of the planes that made history. (B-17, P-51, ect)

I've got a Star Destroyer, with fiber optic kit sitting in a box waiting for me to get up the nerve to try it. I started an A10 kit and set it aside. I've been trying to get back in the swing, and just can't focus. I've got about 6 OV10 kits waiting for me. I reckon out of 6 kits, I should be able to manage one well done black pony.

I remember packing up 6 30 gallon trash bags full of all my car, boat, tank whatever models back in '76 and took them out to the curb. I miss the Don Prudhome and Tom McEween(sp) funny cars the most...

I used to build lots of AMT car models when it took $1.49 to buy the kit...back in the 60's. Entered some contests but never won. It was just fun to enter and feel like you were doing something really neat and meet other kids building models. I'm in my mid 50's now, and build an occasional model, but just do not have the time to make a real hobby of it.
Instead, I buy 1/18th diecast cars and wish I could build a model as nice as the diecast cars are built. Exoto and CMC are my favorite manufactures. Only draw back is the high cost, some well over $200. Model building is a real talent, and I think kids that learn those skills have a real jump in some career fields. My kids never developed the interest. Maybe I can get the grand kids started and I will make the time to do it with them. My life is just rushing by, and maybe this is just what I needed to slow down a little. |

NICE work. I put together that model in high school. I ended up weathering it too much.
Have you ever seen the sketch of it hooked up to a powerdevice of some sort? Well I knew this guy that built models and props from scratch. His Star Trek stuff was better then the originals, according to the actors. Anyway - he made me from scratch the powerdevice for my model. really looked nice. |

I have a bunch of aircraft models in my closet. I've been too busy with work to build them. I'm not bad at it, but I tend to rush them and the results aren't so good. I also paint and draw, so basically I try to divide my time between the two hobbies.
My secret to good finishes and especially with decals is Future Floor Polish. A couple of light coats out of the airbrush and the decals blend perfectly. Another coat, and a flat wash, and the decal looks like it was painted on. Any scratches on canopies or clear parts? Dip it in Future. Like magic. |

Space: 1999 (season 1 only - season 2 sucked), UFO, Thunderbirds, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Thuderbirds are GO!, Thunderbird 6 all on DVD... hell I even have a copy of Doppleganger (Journey to the Far Side of the Sun) ON LASERDISC.

I'm only about two percent through building my 1:10 scale Super Star Destroyer but have already realized that it's already too big to fit through the garage door. And I've only completed the primary longitudinal structural members! The transverse members are still on the freight dock, waiting for me to call for them.
Big models are cool....but not TOO big! Ever bought a 55 gallon drum of Testors model cement? The salesman looks at you REALLY funny.  CJ |

I liked my 1:48 Bone. I see it's out again too, but I can't bring myself to pick another one up. I want a good 1:35 scale MH60L kit. There are a bunch of -60 kits out, but I don't want to do a lot of work for a conversion. I need to check out the DAP kit, I bet it's close enough. |
