Just moved and relocated here to New Mexico,
'bout 2000 miles from my home state of Pennsylvania for over 40 years. Anyway, last week while working in the backyard... I encountered this evil little creature. To me, it appeared or seemed to resemble a Scorpion. Neighbor tells me it's a 'Vinegar Bug'. Non poisonous, and completely harmless. Any help identifying it would be greatly appreciated. I did do a 'google' search under 'vinegar bug similar to scorpion' and came up empty handed. Thanks in advance!

Vinegaroon. (or whip scorpion) Quite common here, I don't know about where you are. They spray an acid stuff like a stinkbug. Biggest I've ever seen is about 4".

One of my basic rules in life: Never live anywhere with bugs that are big or poisonous enough to pose a threat, real or imagined.
40 below zero - fine, wear more clothes, build fire. Bugs that big - get flame thrower, burn area to cinders |

Vinegaroon/whip scorpion. Harmless, but stinky. Just let it loose in your yard; they kill nastier pests that would otherwise get in your house.

Doesn't Washington State have Hobo Spiders? Those bugs can cause a nasty bite and infection. |
